Does anyone know why the dalek voices in the two Pertwee stories Day Of The Daleks and Death To The Daleks are so weak sounding their awful.

Director Paul Bernard used alternative voice artists for Day of the Daleks rather than the usual artists such as Roy Skelton, David Graham and Peter Hawkins who had been the voices of the Daleks in the 1960s.Personally I love the original Dalek voices in Day of the Daleks and could take or leave Nic Briggs' re-imagined voices on the SE release. Roy Skelton and Michael Wisher did the voices on Death to the Daleks and subsequent stories until the end of the classic series and certainly Roy Skelton's vocals do become strained by the end, but his voice in Death to the Daleks is a little mannered definitely. Maybe it's because the City of the Exillons is draining all electrical energy that the Daleks sound so weak but I still love it!

It was on Planet of the Daleks that Roy Skeleton and Michael Wisher did the voices together. Roy was absent from both Death to the Daleks and Resurrection of the Daleks, sadly. Michael Wisher did all the Dalek voices for Death; quite a feat!

The sound of the Dalek voices isn't really down to the voice artists themselves, rather that Paul Bernard disliked the 60's voices and so requested the voice modulation be done in studio rather than through the Radiophonic Workshop.

Terrance Dicks said in an interview how he noticed that similarity in many of Nation's Dalek scripts by around the time Death to the Daleks was submitted, which is why Genesis was such a different script in the end.

To me they sound weak compared to the stronger sound they had in the Hartnell and Troughton stories and it is noticable.
