Having very much enjoyed the recent "Zoo Quest in Colour" I'm at rather a loss to understand the Film Unit's reluctance to use 16mm and wondered if there were some technical reason of which I'm not aware. If 1954-ish 16mm stock looked so good on a modern HD TV, why wasn't it considered good enough for 405 line broadcast?
Another question that's obvious to me is whether any other series of the time were shot on location in 16mm and were forced to use colour neg for the same reasons?
I was most amused by Attenborough brandishing a Bolex H16 early in the programme whereas the camera Charles Lagus is using is clearly a Cine-Kodak Special, albeit with a modified finder.
Cheers, Jim
