Robb,I give plenty of links to the Guardian,too-though I'm permanently banned from posting anything there, after I queried some United Nations statistics used in an article!

WARNING - DAILY MAIL LINK IN THE ABOVE POST I was going to click on that too until I noticed it was a daily fail link! I wouldn't give that rag the time of day. Not a personal criticism of you John, but, ugh, daily mail :/ It's right up there in the most biased and most misleading news paper contest that is happening in the UK media.

At the risk of going off-topic,(ho-ho) I think that the underlying principle of the Guardian,to provide 'safe spaces' in its comments section,is downright nasty.Every single day,four-letter word abuse is allowed to stand, despite the site's commitment to delete abusive comments.Provided you call the right person a xxxx,a xxx,or a xxx, you're immune.Apparently,my post against the setting of targets for rape convictions caused me to be regarded as a rape apologist, leading to a suspension, followed by a permanent bar when I questioned the UN's statistics.
It looks as though the Guardian's may well going to block all comments in the future, since the majority of posts are 'off-message'. The Mail has some amazingly in-depth articles on e.g. the workings of the Family Courts, though I'm less keen on the Fe-Mail section!

With regards to the daily mail, it isn't a good source of information really. It has a long history of trying to whip up hate against minority groups to sell papers, it's founder used to visit Germany to spend time with a certain fascist dictator in the 30s, it supported fascism in Britain until the outbreak of WW2 when it became very unfashionable to do so, it's current boss is a massive tax fraud and it actively misleads the general public with ridiculously inaccurate and biased articles that are sometimes deliberately racist. So, for me, the daily mail wouldn't get used to line the cat's litter tray. To each their own, but it is a pretty disgusting paper imo that causes problems in British society. I note you mentioned the Guardian there too, which may have been an alright paper 'back in the day' but has gone downhill to mediocrity imo, but still isn't as venomous as the daily fail. Myself I prefer the morning star or Huffington post Both excellent reads.

Used to read the Morning Star back in the late 70s,early 80s. It's worth remembering that the Communist Party were pro-appeasement up until Operation Barbarossa, organising strikes and lobbying against Britain's involvement against Hitler.(There was a pact between Starlin and Hitler).Orwell's very good on this. Yes,I remember the glory days of the Guardian. The real James Cameron... Talking of 1984,read one of the comments pages on the Guardian. Then refresh the page, noting how many comments have been removed because they criticised, with citations, the thesis put forward in the article, thus "offending community standards". How interesting What the Papers Say was,for a 5-minute programme!
