I found some compressed sandwiches in a film can once. The banana was very black and furry, but the bread was just a pale green.

I assume you mean that you got the films as well as the cans?
I can't tell you what they are - but the first one sounds like it has a mute print with a separate magnetic soundtrack.
The second one sounds like it the opening titles and credits to something.
Have you considered running the prints to see what they are?

Ade --
Geez - I can't speak for anyone else, but it was a joke, son, a joke. People often refer to films as "Film Cans" and I think it's funny because to a film collector - the can is just a storage container.
As for helping you with the LWT stuff -- I gave you all the information I could gleen from what you posted. I live in the USA -- and there's very little useful information over here about what is and isn't missing from the LWT archives in the UK.
I also don't see any posts here that say ANYTHING about Dr. Who.
My rule with films of any sort is if they're cheap enough - buy them. Then worry about whether they're missing or not. (The danger of that of course is that you'll end up like me with thousands and thousands of films stacked up everywhere).
I'm sure that there is someone here who can help you with LWT info; or at least point you at the right people -- Dick Fiddy maybe?

I think the last of replies so far is due to a lack of information about LWT's archive holdings. The Doctor Who and BBC threads get more responses because there are people at this board who work for the BBC and can check what the archive holds.

Hi Ade,
Sorry that you didnt get the response you'd hoped for. To help get an idea of what we are dealing with, could you let us know some more info. It could be that this 'collection' is most important.
You mention that your contact has a quite a few of these cans.
Do they want to sell them or just get rid of them to a good home ?
Do they want to get rid of the whole lot ?
Where abouts are they located? London ? Manchester ? Liverpool ?
If they are looking to sell them, what sort of prices are we looking at ? £75 a can, £7 a can, 75p a can?
Hope this helps
Pete H...

Both "What The Butler Saw" and "Double Cross" are such generic titles - used all over the place - that they're not a great deal of help. I can't think of anything LWT-related they could apply to.
Neither "Side Stepping Pig" nor "The Swank" rings any bells at all. The former sounds like either a cartoon or a "funny" animal you'd get on "That's Life".
Can't imagine any genuine LWT footage would exist as 8mm film unless something in their early days was ever released for the home cinema market.

Have you tried looking the titles up at www.itnarchive.com/granadavisual/? What the Butler Saw appears to have been a one-off LWT pop show from 1974. The other titles come up with nothing. And Ade, while I sympathise with you about the disproportionate reaction given to anything Who-related ("Look, I've just found one of Patrick Troughton's toenail clippings - let's have it Vidfired and colourised for a DVD release"), I don't think it reflects well on you that you seem to throw your toys out of the pram because people don't seem to be paying enough attention to your find.
