It would be useful if someone home or abroad could check local TV listings on this show.David Buck posted a few years ago that:
"thus far the 8 known surviving episodes have been relatively easy to identify because you can match the title in the Kaliedoscope guides up to the fairly simple plots - unfortunately Kal. could only find 26 episodes broadcast against a tv times article that says 28 episodes were made so even the number of episodes can't be confirmed - As far as ITV dramas go it's about as obscure as you can get".
This is the totality of the UCLA listing:
Bibliographic Record Display Strange experiences. [19--] Holdings Information Holdings Record Display Location:Non-circulating SRLF research copy Inventory Number:T13743 Collection:TV Television Collection Format:1 reel of 1 (ca. 1200 ft.) : opt sd. ; 16 mm. safety print. A2-146-3
Number of Items:1
Don't suppose anyone fancies popping in there or getting in touch to ask exactly what's on this reel?
Added: I've just noticed that David refers to "the 8 known surviving episodes",although it seems that at that time it was 8 episodes that were thought lost out of more than two dozen made?

at the time of my post - the only known episodes were those I had - 3 on 16mm & the 5 episodes featured on something weird video's Tv rarities DVD - hence the domestic format notation , it seems Kaleidoscope have found some in an archive somewhere since if they now reckon only 8 are missing , 2 of which and an upgrade appearing to be at the BFI
the upgrade? - well, the episode the BFI have titled Halloween will most likely be The Kleptomaniac episode as it is set at a Halloween party, that one was screened at raiders at BAFTA a few years ago to universal bemusement (It's not a great series and that was a particularly naff ep.)
None of the 8 episodes I have access to have on screen titles, or credits and are presented in multi episode omnibus form ; so it would be interesting to see how individual episodes were presented originally , though it's incredibly unlikely anyone would go to the expense of transferring 35mm material for this series

Thanks,David.I get nervous when I go out on a limb on things I know little about.
I meant to ask if Halloween was a generic title.Have to admit that I thought that the 'domestic formats' meant the Something Weird DVDs,which I think was one suggestion.
Added: Isn't Clocks also an upgrade?

yes , sorry , 2 formerly missing episodes , 1 upgrade, 1 probable upgrade (though there's a slim chance it might be one Kaleidoscope coouldn't find a title / screening for instead)

A couple of other points: Two episodes were also shown as
FEBRUARY TELEVISION SHOW NO.1: Strange Experiences: Knife Throwing FEBRUARY TELEVISION SHOW NO.1: Strange Experiences: Safe And Sound
which survive. This was "A pilot production designed to give some idea of how an evening's viewing might appear on the forthcoming I.T.A. channel in London. The programme includes an introduction to a women's magazine show called "WHAT'S NEW?" by Josephine Douglas and advertisements for Fry's Caramets, Kleenex Tissues (featuring Nanette Newman), Frigidaire Refrigerators (featuring Paula Marshall), Quaker Oats and Alexandre of Oxford Street. In addition, an advertisement for "Woman's Own" magazine highlights a new autobiographical series of articles by Noel Coward (played by Dennis Price in the commercial). Two episodes of the television series "STRANGE EXPERIENCES" are included in their entirety: "SAFE AND SOUND" and "KNIFE THROWING" (5 minutes each). These are introduced by Joy Adamson. Both episodes feature Peter Williams, the first of the two also features Peter Sallis (1348ft). (Shotlist)".
Lostshows calls the episode The Knife Thrower.
Lastly, was the 1962 episode The Comet the only one to be screened at the time? Was that really its first broadcast?
Answers,on a postcard please,to...

There are some useful details here: (from www.78rpm.co.uk/tvw.htm ) Mysterious tales introduced by Peter Williams, and produced by Derick Williams, that were screened on ATV London from the very first week it was broadcasting. ATV Midlands repeated the series in 1962 at 8.55pm to fill in a five minute slot before the nine o'clock news. ATV London were also still repeating them on Sunday afternoons in the 1960's. These were dramatised film reconstructions lasting only three and a half minutes each. Nevertheless they contain some fascinating material, a gallant attempt to create the shortest of short stories. List of known films with dates of first screening on ATV London: 1 The Pickpocket (first shown Sat Sept 24th 1955, 7.10pm) 2 Identical Twins (Oct 1st 1955) 3 Portrait of Paula (Oct 8th 1955) with Theodor Bikel and Josephine Griffin 4 The Hold-Up Man (Oct 15th 1955) Peter Williams has a conversation with a masked marauder pointing a gun at him 5 The Sleepwalker (Oct 22nd 1955) with Frank Birch 6 Hallowe'en (Oct 29th 1955) with Elspeth Gray- Peter's hostess at a hallowe'en party persuades him to throw the peel of his apple over his shoulder to the find out the initial of his future bride. The peel forms the letter Q 7 Mrs Gilson's Murderer (Nov 5th 1955) with Arthur Howard 8 Fortune-Teller (Nov 12th 1955) with Patrick Barr, Irene Handl 9 Sleeping Girl (Nov 19th 1955) 10 Queer Customer (Nov 26th 1955) with Anna Turner, John Wood and Hugh Latimer 11 Grandpa's Portrait (Dec 3rd 1955) 16 The Trial (Sun Jan 8th 1956, 7.40pm) 17 Kleptomaniac (Jan 15th 1956) - pictured 19 Old Silas (Jan 29th 1956) - "can a dead man's curse hold true? Will he return at the appointed hour to avenge his killing?" 20 The Well (Feb 5th 1956) with Louise Hampton and Richard Turner. A labourer, blinded by an actress' stage jewellery, plans to steal it 22 The Laughing Clown (Feb 19th 1956) 29 Matter of Luck (Apr 8th 1956) Safe and Sound The Ventriloquist with Kenneth Hyde The Comet with Jack Lambert Dunkirk with David Oxley, Sally Newland The Inveterate Gambler with Michael Shepley and Peter Sallis. The curious story of a burglar and a gamble The Idol with Cyril Smith The Knife Thrower The Clocks with Michael Balfour Interesting that it went out hours earlier than I thought it would, and they list Kleptomaniac and Hallowe'en (sic) as separate episodes. The synopsis for Hallowe'en doesn't seem to involve a kleptomaniac. Also,I can't see Mrs.Gilson's Murderer listed on Lostshows?

Did ATV London continued showing them right up until they lost their franchise in July 1968? Or did they during 1966 or 67 (in my imagination) showed it as a 5-minute filler after 'thunderbirds' or any ITC series,if it was billed in tvtimes to be shown for a hour?
