This is great news and raises hope for more recoveries in the future.
As no-one has asked yet - what are the chances of the bfi releasing a new boxset of the shows? A lot of material has been found since the last dvd and there is probably a good feature that could be included on the hunt for them and restoration.

Thanks for the clarification. When the missing episodes page is updated, I think episode 2 should be listed as missing. I think 5 minutes of footage existing is insufficient to label a show as incomplete

No, it's S1E3, S2E4, and S2E6. That last one was recovered before the previous set (from Frost), but it was badly scratched and was missing one link. So that's 50 extra seconds of the lovely Aimi MacDonald and a lot less 'tramlines'. In total, we're 30 minutes short (spread over 3 episodes). Thanks, that's interesting to know! I've been wondering why no word had been giving on what the other two episodes were that were returned. Is'nt episode 1 from season 1 that was recovered last year incomplete as well though? Or was it only episode 7 that was missing a little?

Amazing news! I remember getting into archive comedy a good twenty years ago (a small fry to some of you, I know) and there being 3 complete episodes and the 5 comps in the archive. How far we've come.
To clarify from my understanding of the current position: the BFI refers to "11 complete episodes". One can assume - perhaps incorrectly, but considering 2.6 is now considered complete, having been missing about 50 seconds of non-credits material prior to this latest find - that 1.1 is missing only its end credits (which could presumably be reconstituted). Which would mean the two incomplete instalments are 1.2 (only 5 mins of material, basically the beginning of the episode, extant) and 2.7 (missing a few minutes at the end, including "The Rhubarb Tart Song"). So less than one episode's worth of material still missing all up. Hurrah!
And as regards the post above about a BFI DVD release, isn't the problem that the rights lie with a company which demonstrates very little interest in exploiting its ITV holdings for commercial purpose? I'm assuming these rights apply not only to the footage extant when they took ownership of the holdings, but any returned material subsequent to it - is anyone in a position to confirm/clarify this assessment?

Well, S2E1 has the same as S1E2, only with more material: 18-19 minutes. (But if they were combined there'd be 2 openings.) I make it 30 minutes, just over one episode, still missing. S1E1: (not sure) S1E2: 19-20 minutes missing S2E1: 6-7 minutes missing S2E3: break missing, and possibly end credits too S2E5: missing the last words of the sketch & end credits. S2E7: Rhubarb tart missing (but not end credits)

Ah, right - good to know. Sorry if I muddied the waters!
I had thought that 2.1 was now more-or-less complete, the long-missing "Joke Shop" sketch having been rediscovered (as a censor trim?) in Australia. And that 2.3 had been circulating as complete for a couple of decades now (I haven't seen it for ages, and probably wouldn't have noticed a missing break in any case). Happy to stand corrected!

The break is of course hardly essential. Audio can show where it should go, anyway. I think there are 30 seconds of the Joke Shop as video, but that's it.

I would say that's disappointing, but in the current context that seems more than a little ungrateful! Thanks again for the correction.

Look how many series have just one or no episodes left. We've got just over 90% of ALT1S if I make a quick calculation, and all the audio. Those 30 seconds do come from Australia, they're trailer material.

Quite right. At this moment it's unclear if that channel is legitimate or not.

They've now also added S2E7.
