Don't be put off by the constant moaning of a few posters here. I agree to a point that there are some issues with this collection but it's still well worth purchasing. 'Paperback Writer' does actually look fantastic! It clearly states on the back it is ALL region which is a pretty good indication it is NTSC. If you were so disappointed nicadare why did you bother ripping the disc to your hard drive before sending it back? Mike i agree it's worth purchasing. That does not take away the fact that there have been some really stupid mistakes made which appears to be par for the course for Apple. I do not mind if they use the original mixes or make new ones, but the issues that have been flagged (sped up Please Please Me, 8 days a week outro, etc..) should not happen. This reminds me of the carelessness that happened when a dvd (?) version of Citizen Kane was cleaned so thoroughly that the rain disappeared in a scene - in the case of Please Please Me i'd argue it's actually a lot more serious than that. There is no reason Apple could not have done this set in a fashion that would have led to praise left right and centre even from obsessive nutjobs such as myself. As it is, they've done what they did on the Anthology cds, BBC sets (though they did largely correct those 2nd time round for vol 1) and the 1963 bootleg recordings. They need to use an expert because apparently they don't have one and this is The Beatles we are talking about, not The Monkees whose catalogue has been treated far better. May I suggest Ron Furmanek ? As a Dylan fan and having seen a lot of comment about the super deluxe 65-66 box and having bought it i have 3 complaints - one, it's expensive but that's ok. Two i got bitchslapped by customs for £120 vat - not ok. Three - why aren't The Beatles doing something like this. Jeff Rosen et al have come in for criticism in the past re Dylan's music. I've been giving the guy a standing ovation for about a week and now my feet and hands hurt.

The point here though is that a lot of this material is sourced from UK tape formats in the first place (405 / 625 / PAL, with only a few clips in native NTSC to start with) so therefore why does footage of a UK band like The Beatles have to be transferred and mastered to NTSC, which is an inferior technical standard? There is no reason for it. Reading various music forums online though, these sets have been (rightly, in my opinion) criticised for what has been done to this material. So it's more than just a few posters making a lot out of nothing. If we all complained to Apple, they might have to re-think their way of doing things. It would have been nice if they could have offered it in both PAL and NTSC.Maybe in a Super-Duper set? I'd love the thread title changed/updated!

Due to the DVDs limitations it must be either NTSC 720x480 29.9fps or PAL 720x576 25fps. The bluray should of been encoded to: 23.976 for the 35mm/16mm film footage, 25fps 1080i for the PAL and 29.9fps for the Ed Sullivan clips. The biggest mystery here is why the Paperback Writer 35mm film which is equivalent or better than 4K been encoded at 29.9fps when it should be 23.976. In quality pecking order 35mm film is only 2nd to 70mm (65mm)film, both which make any modern digital format look inferior.

Hi all
I didn't know the Beatles promos had finally been released, very poor fan I know! However, having looked on Amazon, I am confused, do I need to buy the deluxe bluray to get all the videos or will the standard one suffice? (I'm not bothered about the book)
Looking at the listing, it doesn't seem clear to me?
Thanks in advance Kyle

You need 1+ to get all 50 videos, 1 is just the number 1's

Thanks Simon Edited to add: Well, it's not a bad set but I see what people mean about the quality, some promos look fairly washed out. And The Hard Days Night Promo clip nearly gave me motion sickness! Not sure I really understand the VT clocks on disc 2 either but hey ho! Kyle Forgot to say, they've done something to the Real Love mix as well oddly...

Thanks Simon Edited to add: Well, it's not a bad set but I see what people mean about the quality, some promos look fairly washed out. And The Hard Days Night Promo clip nearly gave me motion sickness! I'm still awaiting to buy the Beatles 1+ Blu-ray with the proper encoding. If any "Apple" personnel are reading you can use Adobe Encore to render mixed frame rates on the same Blu-ray disc, clearly you are unaware of this. Titles in RED incorrectly rendered (wrong frame rate).
