Here's a great story that gives a bit of hope and inspiration to all of us who long for lost films to be discovered. In May this year I was alerted by forum member Simon Moreby to an auction on eBay for a 16mm film of a school sports day. It was taken in 1947 at Culford School in Suffolk when both Ian and his younger brother Donald (my father) were studying there. Both were good at sports so it was a calculated risk to bid.We won the auction but still didn't know if they were on the film or not. The film was then sent to be transferred into a digital format. The results have exceeded all our expectations. This is almost certainly the earliest footage of Ian Hendry in existence - just 16 years old! You can read more about it and watch the footage here: --> ianhendry.com/culford-school-sports-day-1947/Keep the faith - there's still many more discoveries for all of us to make. Best regards Neil Hendry

Cracking find!! Well done! Amazing what you find - years ago at LWT when I was working on the one series of FLOYD ON TV (i.e. after Clive James, before Chris Tarrant), we used a clip from a newsreel of a newspaper vendor calling the headline about Princess Margaret not marrying Group Captain Peter Townsend. So what you say - but I received a letter in the office from a lady who recognised the newspaper chappy as her recently deceased Dad... she was bowled over to see it and of course I sent her a copy.
Sometimes little clips can mean alot to some people - case in point.

Humph. That's "former forum member Simon Moreby",though we wish he wasn't.Former,I mean. Seriously: seriously clever work,Simon. You know clips are going to be in a documentary one day!
So who were the under-bidders? The cadet branch of the family?

Mainly just view as a guest but logged in as a member to keep the numbers up. My guess as to numbers dropping is the lack of understanding of the complications of finding missing episodes together with the increased interest in lost DW since 2011/13 the effects may even have reached here, which is a shame as this is about all missing TV and film.

Thanks Freddie - exactly, 'there's gold in them there hills'... Great anecdote Mark - it's amazing how things like this happen. I'm not surprised she was shocked and thrilled. I remember the pre-digital era where photographs and film were taken much more sparingly as you knew there was a cost involved. That definitely adds to the perceived value of finding footage and photos from that time. Nowadays we can get coverage of everything, include what people are having for dinner - whether you want it or not! I'm in touch with Simon and will pass on the message that he is missed at the moment....
