Which FA Cup Finals exist in full in the archives?
How many different archives would these be?
And what about those old "Official Film of the FA Cup Final" shows where 80% of it has little to do with the actual game?

Excellent idea for a thread, I've actually been watching a lot of the 60s/70s finals recently on YouTube.
I believe the ITV transmission of the 1970 replay doesn't exist anymore, because many years later Brian Moore recorded another commentary for it based on the BBC transmission.
Off the top of my head, I think every FA Cup final exists in full from around 1964 onwards. Before that it's a bit spotty (1957 and 1962 exist in full I believe)

However cannot find 1956 on DVD so perhaps that is missing.

Some earlier finals exist too
There are ILC Sport DVDs of: 1960 Wolves v Blackburn Rovers (3-0) 1961 Spurs v Leicester City (2-0) 1962 Spurs v Burnley (3-1) 1963 Man United v Leicester City (3-1)
then most if not all F.A.Cup Finals from 1964 onwards, I have 1964, 65, 66, 67 (the second half of Spurs v Chelsea is quite edited),& Chelsea v Leeds (1970), Arsenal v Liverpool (1971)
and Ipswich v Arsenal (1978 - which I found recently in a charity shop for 50 pence !)
There is also: 1965 West Ham - 2 TSV Munich - 0 (European Cup Winners Cup Final - at Wembley - BBC TV with commentary by Ken Wolstenholme)
1968 Man United - 4 Benfica - 1 (European Cup Final at Wembley - tho' extra time footage is very edited !)
also I have a couple of DVDs of matches that are not of TV standard:
1963 England - 2 Rest of The World - 1 (F.A.Centenary Match at Wembley) - BBC TV footage commentry by Kenneth Wolstenholme
1969 England - 4 Scotland - 1 at Wembley - BBC TV footage with commentary by David Coleman with 'expert' comments by Brian Clough and Jock Stein ( the second half is a bit of a 'jumpy' picture for about the first 15 minutes)

1976 featuring the Mighty Saints triumphing, is of course available on DVD....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1954, 57, 58 and 59 exist on youtube. Back to the other stuff....not all the League Cup Finals and Charity Shields exist prior to the 1980's.

Just before the 1974 final kicked off, there was an appearance on the pitch by Bruce Forsyth (some of this still exists on YouTube), however I am sure that there is also a race around the Wembley pitch won by Brendan Foster. Or am I imagining this?

The key missing FA Cup Final's are
1956 Manchester City v Birmingham City - I suspect the BBC recorded in ten minutes segments which overlapped slightly and one of these is missing leaving a gap that can't be covered by the overlap. 1967 Chelsea v Spurs - ATV London were only broadcasters. The BBC probably thought there would be no interest outside London so just recorded highlights for Match of the Day but even that is missing the beginning of the second half. This footage was used as the official DVD release so there as to be a question mark hanging over ATV London's broadcast (See also the 1968 League Cup Final). I think it's safe to assume(due to the no DVD releases)that most of ITV's coverage from the fifties and sixties maybe lost. However a brief portion of the 1969 Leicester v Manchester City (broadcast in Black and White) is available somewhere on Youtube.

I know you are wrong re the 1967 F.A.Cup final as I recall I ALWAYS watched the final on BBC (who screened the final live each year back in those days)- and I recall that Spurs v Chelsea (2-1) game very well, and that just as BBC commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme (once again - was he psychic ?) with the score at 2-0 to Spurs said;
"it's not a road Chelsea need to climb now it's a pyramid...they need two goals in the last four minutes...THERE'S ONE OF 'EM !"
(just as Ken began saying that Bobby Tambling duly headed over Pat Jennings into Spurs net to pull one back for Chelsea late on...)
I can recall that happening LIVE not on 'Match of The Day' later on (tho' I watched that too) so BBC must have filmed it live too...
Hey Ray, I WAS only joking mate !
...tho' I recall for the first ten minutes Saints couldn't get out of their own penalty area ! (LOL)
- I'm from the South too & I was glad to see a Southern team win it for a pleasant change !
(Man United won it the following year anyway)

I'm sure I asked a similar question some years ago, my question stems from the fact that my lot won the cup in 1946 and it was broadcast on tv & filmed by pathe and did exist complete (pathe) for some years hence. It would be interesting to know what is the earliest complete final that is in existance

I clearly remember watching that game live on BBC one that saturday afternoon with Kenneth Wolstenhome doing the commentary - I NEVER watched any F.A. Cup Final on ITV in the sixties
BBC never missed screening a F.A. Cup Final live in the sixties - it was one of the very few 'Live' matches you got on TV in those days
After the game BBC interviewed a few Spurs players - Jimmy Greaves, Dave Mackay & Terry Venables I recall in their 'muddy' all white shirts
during the lap of honour a 'fan' in a suit got in with the Spurs team & Ken Wolstenhome thought he was Spurs player Eddie Clayton (it wasn't )
