Viewing just now (Sunday 09.00 BST) on Freeview commercial Horror Channel 70 a Tom Baker Dr. Who ep. of Logopolis - interspersed with commercials. Wooden acting, wooden set, wooden props, wooden plot - now I know why I stopped watching Dr. Who year's ago. But these eps are also all on DVD from Amazon sans commercials.

Too true, Logopolis was pretty awful, The Keeper of Traken was much better IIRC, and would have made a much better swan song for the Baker years

I liked Logopolis, even if there was an "end of term" feel about it.
Keeper of Traken took a 2nd viewing to get a better feel of it.

I love all classic Dr Who, good and bad. That's what makes the classic series so unique. And as someone above me said, I'd watch (just about) any episode of the classic series than of the new one.
In that respect, even though The Underwater Menace gets panned so much, I'd still like to see it released on DVD with the proposed animations of eps 1 and 4.

I like bot the original & new series, in spite of anyone trying to convince me otherwise.
The Howarth / Lyons "All new Dr Who must be considered rubbish" rule still seems to apply.

Having watched Dr Who from the very beginning, when I was 4, it amuses me to see these polarised opinions of Old v. New : my view is that the Hartnell years were good ; Troughton - fantastic and unsurpassable ; Pertwee - ok ; Tom Baker - some decent stories but mostly rubbish ; Davison - worse but still some good moments ; Colin Baker - badly treated with some awful storylines ; McCoy - mostly dreadful. As to its reincarnation, I've continued to watch and mostly enjoy it, particularly with Tennant as The Doctor, but had to grit my teeth through the dreadful Matt Smith stories (and his even worse acting / characterisation); it has recovered somewhat under Peter Capaldi. So, overall, both old and new had much to admire but also much to deride.

Let's hope for more recoveries. Re:- the new series, I must admit I quite liked the Eccleston season, personally I thought Tennant over acted (& John Simm, gurning and rolling his eyes as The Master, please, why couldn't he have played it straight, he was good in Intruders, ah well..) and then I pretty much gave up. Dipped back in for the Ice Warriors on the Sub which I quite enjoyed. Only watched Peter Capaldi in one episode so far so feel unable to comment really...

I've tried to see as much of the original series pre-Davison, it's particularly hard to assess the Troughton era due to the limited number of surviving episodes, but on the whole I've liked what I've seen.
I'm on similar lines with the new series, Christopher Eccleston's single series being very good, David Tennant's run having a mixture, but the odd weak episode being balanced by an outstanding one along the way.
Matt's Smith's era was slightly let down by the over-complicated story arcs not coming to a decent ending, but I managed to get through it.
So far Peter Capaldi's run has been good, almost repeating the Eccleston formula of keeping the ongoing storyline fairly simple.

Mmm, must give the latest ones a try then. Trouble is I can't stop thinking about Malcolm Tucker when watching.......
