I assume people have already done some digging to check the Canadian angle? It was a co-production with the Ontario Educational Communications Authority and appears to have been broadcast on CBC. The Rocking Horse Winner was one of six episodes produced as part of a series called Classics Dark and Dangerous. From the details I dug up a month or so ago, it appears that only four of them were ever broadcast in the UK: Classics Dark and Dangerous

Anyone know if the story 'The Island' is listed as missing?

I know, that's why I'm prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to other sources - page numbers can easily be mistyped, but it's a bit harder to go so completely wrong on the contents. Or at least, that's what I'm hoping!

Kieran, Do you know who did the scripts for 'The Ugly Little Boy' and 'The Mannikin'? Was the former really done by Don Hutcheon,or does that refer to the notes?

Kieran, Do you know who did the scripts for 'The Ugly Little Boy' and 'The Mannikin'? Was the former really done by Don Hutcheon,or does that refer to the notes? Like you say, I imagine Don Hutcheon was either the range editor for the book or wrote the educational notes for it. As to the scripts, your guess is as good as anyone's. There's so little information available on those two episodes that it's hard to know what was going on. I suppose Robert Bloch might have possibly adapted The Mannikin himself, but I can't find any confirmation of it. Then again, he probably didn't, so... It makes me wonder exactly what sort of co-production deal there was. Perhaps production was split between the UK and Canada, with the mystery two being made across the Atlantic? That could explain the fact that they apparently weren't broadcast in the UK, but again that's just speculation.

Given the cast, production in the Canada looks likely.I'm hoping someone-not me; I'd be hopeless-will contact the archives to ask if they would check the credits.Alternatively,we could always buy copies! Well that's me out - the VHS player packed up about three years back I'll be honest, I wasn't particularly impressed with Mrs Amworth so I've not got around to watching The Rocking Horse Winner yet. I read the short story of that one years ago. It's got similarities to Saki's Sredni Vashtar which has been adapted for TV on numerous occasions - more psychological horror than the supernatural. They're both well worth a read if you're not familiar with them.

If you like stories about mongooseses, the Saki's one of the best.
Simon Moreby's pointed out that The Rocking Horse Winner is held by the BFI.Some people-sniff-look in the most obvious places!
p.s.Loads of stuff still hasn't been released on DVD!

Simon Moreby's discovered a copy of 'The Mannikin' online, and it was scripted by Robert Bloch.
Nice work!
