Hello, and sincere apologies if this isnt the right place for this kind of question but im looking to find more information on a song that was played over I believe the BBC testcard. I was wondering if anyone would be able to let me know the artist and maybe even it's proper title, it's a cover of a song called Hot Canary and I can only assume it was played on the test card at some point in the early to mid 70's. it was on youtube years and years ago but has since been pulled down and it's rather left me unable to find it, back then I believe it was going under the title "Whistling hot canary" but a google search hasnt turned anything up, if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful

The only version I can recall that was used on the test card was by Norman Candler's Magic Strings - known as either 'Hot Canary' or 'Spatz Und Spatzchen'. Commercially released on a Telefunken LP some time in the 70s, and on CD (long out of print) by Recur Records.

Compared to the utter RUBBISH served up on today's TV all I can say is....
The Testcard was quite MAGNIFICENT !

The people over at the Test Card Circle have an encyclopedic knowledge of the test card music. Maybe worth contacting them if needs be.
