This is getting really uncool. Only a little while after Bernard Kay, now it's Fiona Cumming who's gone. Yep, she was a director during the Davison run on four stories - and it's a testament to the quality of the DVD releases that we get alternate director's cuts alongside the broadcast versions of Enlightenment and Planet Of Fire. However, the reason I posted this one here (no b*ll!) is that FC worked on what are still missing episodes of Doctor Who... She served as an AFM on The Massacre, and later moved on to PA work, which she did on The Highlanders! She wasn't in front of the camera, but the success of those stories is partly down to Fiona Cumming - and clearly her fondness for the experience she got working on the show in the 60s must have influenced her desire to direct some rather nice ones in the 80s, and to review that work for DVD a little more recently! As with many of us, I can't help but wish to see those two historicals - and will be sure to spare a thought for her the next time I give them a listen!

RIP Fiona - one of the silent majority of very talented 'Doctor Who' people who over three decades quietly got on with the task of giving us some excellent memorable television entertainment and were content to simply do their work to a high standard that can be enjoyed forevermore standing up to the acid test of time so well (a true testament to her & their quality of work).
Fiona was one of the true 'unsung heroes' of the Classic Doctor Who programme's 'backroom boys & girls' who never sought anything egotistical such as personal publicity / figurehead status etc (my how times have changed since !), just really knew their stuff & did their job so well and to whom we owe a gratitude.
A class act and a great asset to the classic 'Doctor Who' programme.
