Look Tony luv,The Monster of Peladon is fantastic.Alright? "Barry, I need to somehow create a visual shorthand to indicate that these people are, in fact, employed as miners. Do you think they'd have pit helmets on Peladon?" "No, Lennie, I think you should just inexplicably give them all stupid haircuts that make them vaguely resemble badgers". "Fair enough". With all due respect to Jaspal (I like Monster, too) and Alfonso Bedoya ... "Badgers? We ain't got no badgers. We don't need no badgers. I don't have to show you any stinkin' badgers!"

If they gave out awards for comedy here, you'd have my vote Tom! Yeah I agree with Tony - watching Curse Of Peladon tonight. The later one is too long, too dull and singularly lacking in Troughton! Of course, as with any Who, even those less marvellous examples in Season 11, there's always going to be ones people claim as faves for reasons that baffle others. What was considered both the show's greatest strength and in some ways it weakness, the variability of the shows from season and story from era to era, makes this fun to be continually surprised by when discussing it with new and old fans. I wonder if they'd ever consider a return to Peladon these days? I know BF had a crack, but the pictures today would be lovely, especially if we get some outdoorsy location stuff which seems rather more common now. Capaldi is a Pertwee fan, and sword and throne epics seems to be popular. If we could persuade David T to reprise his role, or play an aged descendant, could be a lark! And a slight refresh and revisit of the iconic Alpha Centauri would be nice, too. Given there's no habitation there to our knowledge, perhaps its' bunch came to settle there in the future. Or maybe it's just hard to spot with 21st century technology - the current show likes to tweak our expectations about the everyday, just as we used to expect from it in the old days. Throw in a few more oddball delegates, maybe some more Ice Warriors, you could make it like Poirot's Curtain - a sequel and revisit of the events misunderstood in his origin story, The Mysterious Affair At Styles.

I think I read a while back ( not sure where - may even have been here ) that episode 2 of UM had a few seconds missing which was revealed in comparison with the off-air audio, & that it was hoped that gap would be 'patched' by those restoring the episode. ( I know there was a similar missing bit for Galaxy 4 : 'Airlock', which was excellently sorted out, but I think I also read of a short gap in UM ep 2 ) If so, re the new DVD release; does anyone know if the missing seconds of UM episode 2 were patched with the relevant audio reinstated ? And, if so, where in the episode is that segment ? If it is the case & anyone knows, thanks for any replies. According to a post on Roobarbs from the person who did this fix (Handle Mr Sheen, can't remember his real name) it was just before Jamie & Jacko make a dash for the secret passage. It is a shot of Jacko. I hope he doesn't mind me quoting details from there. "I reasoned that the shot of Jacko would work because it suggests he's looking for the opportunity to make a dash into the secret passage, which he does moments later. It's actually taken from a two shot with the Overseer who's painted out and the image is zoomed in about 180% and slowed to a out a third normal speed. "

Yes - but I can't have been the only SF fan who punched the air when it was announced that a planet had been found orbiting one of the stars in the Alpha Centauri system: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Centauri_BcOne was thought to have been found in 2012, but has now been disproved. The existence of this new one has yet to be verified, and in any case, if it exists it would be most unlikely to harbour life, as it has an orbital period of only 12 days, and would therefore be pretty hot at its surface. But still - when I think of all the stories I have read featuring aliens from Alpha Centauri - how cool to actually find a planet there!

Started watching the UM DVD today. It's hard work. The existing episodes are excruciating and as a result the 'making of' documentary feels redundant. The tele-snaps should be considered as an extended photo gallery whilst listening to Patrick Troughton's son talk about his father's very interesting career and love-life.However,after watching it you do feel like you've re-met(!) an old friend but it's hollow. No wonder the BBC dragged their heels releasing it.It really is sub-standard.

The Underwater Menace is very definitely in my top five Troughton's, a really fun romp, and Zaroff is the best mad scientist Doctor Who ever gave us in my opinion.

Troughton was quite rightly angry at the script and I can see why.Mid '60s murk.

Of course, I'm aware my opinions are often at odds with many others: I love season 18, hate the entire Russell T Davies era, and my favourite sixties Dalek story by far is The Chase...

The thing with the chase is simple. Its a good old Dr Who Story ! Its a romp around half a dozen places, and has more high points then what we have now. Times have changed, never to be repeated sadly
