Hello,
I hope I'm in the right forum. If not, my apologies, but answer, anyway. ;D
In the Fall of 1980, I made my first British friends while living in Saudi Arabia. Back In Country from a visit home to Sussex, he gave me an audio cassette tape he'd made of a television broadcast. He'd written only "Royal Command Performance" on the label. I understand it was not the whole show. He'd taped several comedic skits and, knowing I love the dry wit of England, gave me little background stories on this type show, the performers, the audience, and filled in details on references with which I wasn't familiar. I dearly loved the tape but, passing time, a divorce, and several moves lost the tape to me. For the last few years, I've thought so many times of this tape and hoped I'd run across it each time I reorganized because I couldn't think how to track this show down on my own. Hopefully, this thread will be the beginning of a trail to my show. Or, at least, to my favorite skit.
Old men were boasting about who had been the poorest as a child. We went from having little to eat to a mother who socially aware the child 30 minutes before he went to bed, a father who killed the child each night, having to lick the road clean with his tongue, etc. One had a house, one slept in a hole, one on the road, I think. Mostly, I remember being unable to breathe before I was halfway through the skit because I was laughing so hard.
Does this ring any old bells with anyone?
Thanks,
