I have read that a missing episode of BBC sixties series 'Vendetta' - 'The Innocent Man' series three (1968) has been discovered
I understood BBC already held six episodes out of the total 36 episodes made, so hopefully this is now up to seven surviving episodes.
Maybe a DVD release of the surviving episodes might result in due course ?
Stelio Candelli (Danny Scipio), Neil McCallum (Angelo James ) & later Kieron Moore (Mike Hammond) were good in this BBC thriller series by Tudor Gates, which featured great theme music by John Barry - not unlike his 'The Persuaders !' theme, plus his 'Danny Scipio Theme'
Guest stars in the show included; Barry Morse, Patrick Mower, Patrick Allen, David Burke, Penelope Keith, Isobel Black, Kenneth J. Warren, John Paul, John Barratt, Lisa Daniely, Bruce Boa and Michael Sheard

Thanks,Patrick.I remember this show.Didn't like it much...wrong age,I suppose. In case anyone's wondering, the names in brackets are the characters'.I've always remembered 'Danny Scipio' which I thought sounded rather cool... Slightly complicated on the survival front www.lostshows.com/default.aspx?programme=8a1c86a9-4f41-4c16-9fa5-4b4d727001d8 but let's say we could do with some good news about this show!

It was quite a violent show for the times I recall with murders and torture etc
I didn't know much about the Mafia beforehand so it was a bit educational in that respect
I remember seeing a grey haired Stelio Candelli many years later playing Police Chief Genarro helping Ian Ogilvy's Simon Templar in 'Return of The Saint' episode; 'Vicious Circle', while Neil McCallum was in the UFO episode; 'Court Martial' playing a film director guy.

It was listed for sale on e-bay of all places. I pointed Kaleidoscope in the direction of the listing but had no involvement in the purchase otherwise.

It was listed for sale on e-bay of all places. I pointed Kaleidoscope in the direction of the listing but had no involvement in the purchase otherwise. And for once no-one blabbed! Here it is: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BBC-tv-1968-Vendetta-16mm-film-rare-episode-/261631693902?pt=UK_Films_Film_Stock&hash=item3cea76d44e Broadcast on my 14th birthday. At the time,I was convinced that it was about Cypriots-whatever they were-and that it revolved around the notion that Mediterranean-types had a fixation with revenge and knives. Every story is entitled 'The ... Man' which can be irritating over 36 episodes. Added: I've just twigged.Vendetta...Guy Fawkes...November 5th.Couldn't be nicer!

I recall every episode was 'The ***** Man'
- the pilot was; 'The Dolly Man' which introduced us to Stelio Candelli as 'Danny Scipio'
third episode was; 'The Widow Man' which starred/introduced Neil McCallum as co-lead;'Angelo James' who's wife is killed by the Mafia and he seeks to avenge her death
Stelio Candelli was unwell or something and was unavaliable for a while - he only appeared right at the very end of that episode in a cameo, as Angelo James, after getting those immediately responsible is dislllusioned with the Police not pursuing things any further and as he walks wearily to his house, Danny Scipio is seen leaning on his car and calls James over, they chat, shake hands then get into Scipio's car as the credits go up and theme music plays - that largely undialogued scene thus establishes James has now joined Scipio in the 'Vendetta' and was probably filmed and 'tacked on' to the completed episode later.
'The Innocent Man' is a third season episode so would feature either / both Stelio Candelli as Scipio and/ or Keiron Moore as 'Mike Hammond' who took over as co-lead after Neil McCallum left the show after season two - if I remember correctly, as BBC never repeated the show as far as I recall...

Thanks,Patrick.I've fixed it,but 'The .... Man' sounds so swearing!
I was under the impression,in fact, that all the shows were about revenge for an abduction/rape,but I was obviously wrong-don't think I saw more than one or two episodes.

No the shows were all different themed episodes
one I recall was about mafia corrupting boxing with a rising star boxer who is badly beaten up at the conclusion ending his boxing career - his trainer vows to testify against the mafia guy responsible as a result - David Bauer might have been the guest star in that one
during the show's run Stelio Candelli was making a film in Italy or otherwise unavailable for several weeks - thus Danny Scipio has an episode where he's been shot and badly wounded, nevertheless he holds a mafia gangster at gunpoint in a goods train truck until Angelo James and the Police finally reach them - Scipio is then rushed to hospital having lost alot of blood....
Angelo James then took the sole lead for several weeks until a 'recovered' Scipio returned - once Candelli was available again to resume his joint starring role

In 1991 I worked as a dubbing editor on a drama series called 'Specials' which had been created by the unlikely pairing of Brian Degas (a strange Argentinian guy) and Harry Robertson. Harry was a producer and composer. He was also the original Lord Rockingham.
I edited the sound for 8 of the 12 editions of 'Specials' during which I got to know Brian Degas really well. We talked about his past work, including the co-production I had also worked on, 'Parnell and the Englishwoman' with Trevor Eve and Francesca Annis and of course 'Vendetta'. A few days after we discussed 'Vendetta', I presented him with a tape of some of the surviving editions of the series and he was chuffed to bits to see them again.
Later, he asked me to edit the sound for a new series that he and Harry had sold to Jonathan Powell. It was called 'Nimrod'. For weeks I helped plan the edit schedule of 'Nimrod'. All we had was the script for show 1 which was called 'Virtual Murder'. But soon after, I was asked to cut the sound for a new animated version of 'Under Milkwood' which was being made on 35mm film. Alas, my connection with Brian and Harry ended there. I finished 'Under Milkwood' and 'Nimrod' became (at the suggestion of Powell) 'Virtual Murder'.
Harry is no longer with us, but he was a fine chap. Brian is still around, and well I hope. He is of course known for many great series, including 'Colditz' and 'Strange Report' and he also collaborated on the script for 'Barbarella'. Another great guy.
Regards,
Paul

I've not heard of Vendetta before, but it sounds interesting.
I remember Virtual Murder being quirky, almost like a prototype Jonathan Creek at times. It was one of the last non-soap dramas there BBC made on videotape without a film effect.
