Can anyone out here help me. I've been searching these 2 shows first shown on ITV in 1970 in the sir Duncan rice library in various microfilms of the times that year & I tried no luck at all. Does anyone know the original transmission dates for anglia TV's screenings of their adaptation of 'the wind in the willows'( did they show it before or after their start up colour transmissions)& the network showing of LWT's acclaimed documentary 'Derby day'?

Hello Christian The bfi has the following dates on their holdings for Wind In The Willows Anglia Television. Caution, I am not sure if these are 'recording dates or transmission dates. Perhaps you could contact the bfi and ask them, if they are recording or tx dates. 6/1/70 The River Bank. 8/1/70 More Adventure's Of The River Bank. 13/1/70 The Open Road. 15/1/70 The Motor Car. 20/1/70 The Wild Wood. 22/1/70 Mr. Badger 27/1/70 The Homesick Mole. 29/1/70 Visitors At Mole End. 3/2/70 Mr. Toad. 5/2/70 The End Of The World. 10/2/70 Piper At The Gates. 12/2/70 Mr. Toad Once More. 17/2/70 The Chase. 19/2/70 The Bargewoman. 24/2/70 The Luck Of The Toad. 26/2/70 The Goings On At Toad Hall. 3/3/The Secret Plan. 5/3/70 The Battle Of Toad Hall.
Derby Day LWT the bfi has a date of 28/5/71, whether this is the network showing of Derby Day, I am not sure.
Hope this helps. Perhaps others can be more specific.

Sounds like a bit of padding, though I haven't read the book for ages.

how did you look up derby day Simon ?theres no database showing ,In 79 Roy Hudd did a programme about derby day he did indeed Stephen. Here it is Going To The Derby BBC 5/6/79. Cast Julian Wilson and Roy Hudd. A miscellany of stories, personalities and songs surrounding the world's most famous horse race, celebrating it's 200th anniversary on the 6th June. Held at the bfi on VHS. I do not know if the BBC has it on another format.

I think LWT's screening of 'Derby day' on 28/05/71 is a repeat & only seen in the London region.there was a picture of it & was mentioned in the former ITA's 'ITV 1971' yearbook & it might have the original network TX date.

The Times listings for Friday 28/5/71 has it for LWT only at 8:00pm.
All the other regions apart from Southern, Anglia, HTV and Ulster, transmitted it the following evening at either 10:10pm or 10:40pm.
I think these must be the first transmissions, there is nothing earlier going back to 1/1/1970.
(It's worth joining a library with a subscription to the online Times archive, microfiche is a bit last century!)

I was looking on the TVtimes DVD-ROMS that anglia's original transmission dates for 'wind in the willows' according to the BFI website, was shown twice-weekly alongside 'the romper room' in early 1970 & Anglia did show 'derby day' 2 days after LWT'S transmission on 30/05/71,so it looked at derby day in 1970,& 1971 was it's first transmission.

I've seen episodes of 'wind in the willows' & most episodes opened & all episodes closed with the 'A' Anglia flag ident plastered over the legendary silver knight front/endcaps. in the guild pre-cert releases for that series in the 80s & 'a christmas carol' too, I seem to recall a rare Anglia frontcap which said 'Anglia presents' with the knight on horseback standing on top of a hill on tv ark & youtube did the john worsley/paul honeyman collabrations of the era opened with that frontcap? I've never rented those videos at the time'if you have them let me know.
