I'm sure many of you will remember this creepy children's series broadcast on ITV, based on Catherine Stoor's book "Marianne Dreams".
I'd love to see this series again as a DVD release, but unfortunately, although originally made and shown in colour, it now only exists as b/w telerecordings.
For years, I couldn't put a name to this series, as I seemed to remember it being titled something like "The Magic Pencil" or "The Magic Sketckbook" or something similar.
In researching this series on the web, nowhere have I seen it mentioned that this series was actually repeated sometime in the '70s after its initial showing in April 1972. I certainly saw this series at least twice in the London area in the early '70s.
Could the reason that no colour tapes of this story have been located is that it was actually repeated under a different title and is archived as such ?
It turns out that the book "Marianne Dreams" was actually sold abroad under the different title "The Magic Drawing Pencil". This is amazingly close to the title I seem to remember from the repeat showing. Maybe the title was altered to help with sales abroad of this series ? I know that the serial was sold at least to New Zealand.
Wouldn't it be great if colour copies of this serial could be located. Could they still exist in ATV's archives or abroad under the different title ?
