What was the date of Joe Cocker's first appearance on TOTP singing "A Little Help From My Friends"? I'd like to find out because it has legendary status in my family due to my Dad's reaction to Cocker's singing. It was shown on (IIRC) the Totps Tenth Anniversary Show Dec 1973 as a short clip and that show survives. Not from TOTP unfortunately It's from the BBC show 'How It Is' from November 1968.

Just to wrap up everything here....
On 17/10/1968 Cocker made his debut on TOTP.
That footage is wiped. ""17/10/68 : With A Little Help From My Friends (rpt 24/10/68) 31/10/68 : With A Little Help From My Friends 26/12/68 : With A Little Help From My Friends"" All are wiped.
In 1973, lacking Cocker footage, the BBC used their existing footage of Joe Cocker from 'How It Is' for the TOTP 10th Anniversary show 27/12/1973 (as Paul Watkins rightly says).
Just clearing all this up.

What's sad about this is that nobody in 1973 thought "hang on we don't have any archive footage from 1968 TOTP, maybe we should start archiving what we do have"

Million dollar question - does the full 'How It Is' performance survive or was that then junked by the far-sighted BBC?
