You're wasting your time with this. I know this trader very well and have traded with him myself many times. I'm fairly certain he doesn't own anything that could be considered missing. It's just a pretty bog-standard trading list, a fairly good one admittedly but there's nothing here the bfi will be doing cartwheels over. But the No Hiding Place still seems to be missing from the archive... Stuart

The variety shows mentioned all seem to be ITV shows;with Thank Your lucky Stars there are only three eps in existance. One got returned a couple of years ago and was shown at NFT(the Beatles were guests),and this was a bootleg VHS copy that had been found in America and it had a time clock running in the top right corner so there are hopes that the origanal 2"VT is out there somewhere. The TYLS and Oh Boy shows the trader has listed are, so far as I can ascertain, the only one which are still extant in the archive Stuart

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Michael. "I have just read with intrest that someone has a copy of the No Hiding Place ep Victim of the Dark for trading. I have a VHS copy of this myself." Did you not realise it was a missing episode? If neither Michael nor the online collector realised that the episode was missing it does lend some weight to the idea that there could be any number of things out there in private hands which collectors are genuinely not aware are wanted. From www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/guide/articles/b/billybunterofgre_1299000322.shtml: "Five latter episodes - four in 1960 and one in 1961 - were new versions of scripts enacted between 1952 and 1955. " - which might explain the discrepancy in dates for 'Backing Up Bunter' (which does seem to be missing). Or possibly someone from Kaleidescope? Stuart

Can I e-mail the link to you to confirm whether it's the same site? The No Hiding Place episode is missing as I gather and maybe the Billy Bunter episode too. (I would assume that the Dad's Army, It Ain't Half Hot Mum etc. episodes do survive, but that's just a guess based on probability.) Please feel free to email, Ben - my address is stuart at groovychocolate dot com. All the Dad's Army that's missing, AIUI, are these three from Series 2: 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker' 'A Stripe for Frazer' 'Under Fire' I would have thought stuff like Armchair Theatre and the like would be more probable to be missing. Cheers Stuart

Whatever you do Ben, don't publish the URL online - the flood of Who 'Episode Hunters' refusing to take 'no' for an aswer would drive any trader nuts... Stuart I meant to say - if it's the site I think you're talking about, then this is certainly no hoax - but I admire your resourcefullness in wading through it I've had a look through it a few times but it was so frustrating to navigate and then compare to online missing episode lists, and I never spotted anything I could say for certain was missing. They're missing according to: www.xmission.com/~spectral/pythl/plpmis/mfta1/allgag.htmlThis could turn out to be a brilliant discovery! I'm excited to see how it turns out. From this message board, which person or people should I e-mail the link to? I'm relucant to post it because I worry that the owner will get hassled by dozens of e-mails or warned off or something. Whatever you do Ben, don't publish the URL online - the flood of Who 'Episode Hunters' refusing to take 'no' for an aswer would drive any trader nuts... Stuart

Exactly how were they going to do a complete series dvd when many episodes are missing? That does seem to be a new marketing trick - call it a 'complete series' when what you mean is a 'complete colleciton of everything that's left in the archives'. Stuart

whats the latest on the Complete series DVD it was suposed to be out this month but apears to have been delayed. According to Steve Roberts it was only ever announced in error and never got past the drawing board stage. Which is a real shame, since I was looking forward to seeing it. Stuart

Aren't you the same person who posted a very similar question already? Eh, why would that matter? Stuart

Oh, where do I begin? First off, the media was reporting on the Taliban's attrocities TEXTbefore TEXT Duh-bya decided to run for office. Trust me, the US media isn't that keen of Bush, unless you're counting Fox News (run by his couisn Roger Ailes). Which media are you basing your claims on, by the way? The conspiracy theorists that appear on Art Bell and George Norey 's (sp) radio shows? Is this what the BBC is reporting as fact? Mabye Bill O'Reiley is right about the Beeb after all. And who do you think crashed those planes into the WTC then? Hey, don't involve the BBC - it remained as impartial as possible throughout, just as it should. For Taliban atrocities pre-Dubya, just pick up a handful of copies of most leading western papers of the time and read. The Times in London featured a particularly well written series of articles a few years back regarding the Afghan authorities torturing children which sticks in my mind for some reason. Stuart

Indeed. The thing was merely my extreme annoyance with the usual western demonisation of the Taliban, based entirely on George Bush The Younger's baseless claims of Taliban involvement in the WTC. With regards to the Afghan archives, yes it is a tragedy, but at least they thought they were doing God's work, and not merely using the prints to fill potholes in Dunny-on-the-Wold. Actually, I think the demonisation was based on impartial journalists smuggling out footage of regular Taliban atrocities against, amongst others, young children and unarmed civilians and not for so simplistic a reason as believing anything that halfwit Bush said. Just been researching this one and listening to the theme song which sparked some obscure memory for me. Possibly another show I saw in the seventies...? Does anyone have details of when this show screened in New Zealand? I wonder if any episodes of this lie in dusty forgotten corners as I'm not sure if many in NZ are aware of this being lost or of value... I remember reading somewhere that the episode 'Seven Serpents, Sulphur and Salt' had been recovered (in New Zealand?) in the early 90s. Am I mis-remembering or was the in fact episode recovered? Regards Stuart

You'd think she'd have to be - unless it was a surprisingly spacious and well-stocked shed...

HTF can they auction this nitrate footage without having it transferred to safety stock? The mind boggles, although we have at least seen some clips on telly, does that mean its already been transferred and saved? I assume it must have been - I've seen several different short clips form the film on TV in the past couple of days. Stuart
