Thanks, that makes sense :-) What a shame it's gone.

Do we know what exactly was snipped from Galaxy4?

Thanks for the link! I wasn't aware of that, although I knew about the clips on YT.

If they're NTSC then they're of no real interest, as the show was made in PAL and all six episodes still exist in this format.

I'd have been astounded if they had the original broadcast tapes of a show that was made in the UK!
If they do genuinely have these three episodes, then it would be useful to know not only the tape-format they're held on, but also whether they're the original PAL or just NTSC conversions.

Yes, please do!
I've been away for the last few days, so I've only just caught up with this. As noted above, off-air copies of the three episodes do exist (albeit two are in very poor shape), but if these are broadcast-format then Henson should be interested.

The last time anything was said, 'Varos' was September and 'Shada/30 Years' and 'Reign' were expected to be the remaining two releases for this year. 'Zygons', along with 'Tenth Planet', 'Ice Warriors', 'Ambassadors' and MoE are all presumably on next year's schedule.

It appears Mr King may still be persona non grata. BBC2 repeated 'I Love 1971' the Saturday before last. It was in a 55-minute slot, which I thought was odd at the time, and on checking my off-air from the original broadcast 12 years ago, I was right: two-and-a-half minutes of interviews with King are missing from the repeat.

'The Krotons' is due in the UK on July 10th, according to Roobarbs.
'Ambassadors' is expected next year, although as no date has been announced this is of course subject to change.

Thanks, Ray :-) I take it the show isn't available publically?

Enquiries are underway to find out whether Henson are aware of either the BFI's little collection or the ex-TVS library.
On a related note, apparently Fulton Mackay and Sprocket appeared on the 1984 Children’s Royal Variety Performance - does a recording of this still exist anywhere?

Did anyone follow up on the lead I posted a few posts ago? Im really surprised in the era of vcrs that all of these dont exist as home recordings somewhere. If you're referring to 'Admeek' then yes, it was followed up and Kal now have copies of both episodes. I'm not particularly surprised about the relatively small number of off-airs found to date - remember this was a kids' show, most episodes were only shown once and while many were likely recorded for timeshifting it's unlikely they'd have been retained once the children grew out of Fraggle. My father recorded loads of stuff for my brother and I to watch when we were young, most of which has long since been recorded over now that we're both in our 30s :-) Hopefully there are more recordings out there, but most of those we have are either from the mid-80s VHS releases or from the collection of someone who actually worked on the show and thus had some reason to hold onto the recordings.

The BFI's public-facing database lists a number of episodes, including 18 which I do not have copies of, but it isn't clear whether this is simply a list of broadcasts or a list of shows they actually have. The database on the BFI website is just a list of broadcasts. I think the only way to find out if they hold a particular programme is to contact them. ~iw Yes, I've established what they do in fact hold and the details are on my site :-) All told they have 19 episodes, two of which are available on DVD, and I have VHS copies of a further six.

It would have gone out live and so is unlikely to have been recorded at all, other than by viewers.

i think the rights to the fraggles are owned by lionsgate according to itunes. Lionsgate are the current licensee for the DVD releases. Henson own the rights to the show, and always have. The complication with the UK version is that it was a co-production with TVS, and the question is who currently owns the rights to the TVS-produced segments. It's almost certainly Disney, so there may be hope: whilst Disney do not own Fraggle Rock itself, they do own the Muppets and thus have close ties to Henson. *If* the tapes still exist then at least in principle something could be done.
