I presume the new series with Peter Capaldi will start in the autumn (September?) Does it seem likely the release date for the Underwater Menace will be set for then to gain maximum publicity? can we hope (but not expect) further news from Philip Morris? Let's hope so.

Before Christmas we were rocked by the news that Philip Morris had discovered 9 episodes of a series called Dr Who. These episodes were broadcast on UK BBC tv at the same time as a favourite series of mine - Triton was shown. It was repeated a year later with a sequel - Pegasus. Also repeated at this time was a Long Way Home. Would it seem possible/likely that these episodes are in PM's haul? Should I be optimistic? We're these sseries sold abroad? Any chance of missing Adam Adamant?

With the recent 50th Anniversary and the excellent Adventures in Time and Space I am saddened that the BBC didn't make more use of the cast assembled for that excellent drama. Surely the cost of constructing certain William Hartnell stories with live actors would have been cheaper than animation? Think of a constructed Marco Polo! The Celestial Toymaker! Surely costs would be recouped from DVD sales or downloads? The sets for these 2 stories were fairly simple. If successful more stories could follow. And maybe these special stories could kick off with "A Meeting on the Common" and. "Prisoners in Space" - not ever missing but the first 2 chapters from David Whitaker's Dalek story. But the opportunity is now lost and we have to hope that in Philip Morris haul more episodes will be recovered

Thank you for crediting me on the very first Dr Who trailer. It still remains a pretty accurate reconstruction of what I remember. Alas, although I can remember other trailers, mainly for Patrick Troughton, I can't recall them in any detail. Ican remember Space Pirates being heavily plugged with a large chunk of a Tomorrows World episode devoted to the model work used. It was combined with model work for the upcoming Apollo 11 Moon Landing.

Having watched this forum with increased excitement in the lead up to the big announcement and since then I was in turns amused, saddened, elated but mainly mortied by the frenzy. It bought out the best of fans and the worst. I can now understand why if some one did have missing episodes in their possession they would want to keep them to themselves. The amount of threats, bullying and downright nastiness was totally unforgiveable to other members of the forum. Trying to use Freedom of Information! I have had to produce FOI reports. They are extremely time consuming to any organisation and ore impotantly - extremely expensive! And just to find out IF any missing episodes have been found. Shame on you. Despicable actions. Like many members I am optimistic that the Real Truth is that more episodes have been found. In fact I do hope we have to await for another 81 (+ 9 = 90!) That is not based on any fact or rumour but my hopeful;, internal logic. Think, all of you. If the announcement had been for 90 episodes and not 9 that would more or less have been it. The chase would, for many be over. But, as I hope, there are another 81 it would make more commercial sense to release them a bit at a time. Each time we have a build up of excitement as the next (7 ?) episodes are anounced (Marco Polo ?). Another six months - another episode (ep. 4. Tenth Planet!) another 9 months and 6 more episodes - Power of the Daleks.! A rough average of 9 episodes a year could keep the excitement, DVDs etc. going for another 10 years! That is what perceive and hope is the real truth. Another 81 are actually safe but we will only find out in dribs and exciting drabs. Don't forget keeping the search for ANY missing episodes (not just Who) is at the very essence of this forum. But in future, please, please no nastiness or bulling for information. Just be patient and all will (as with the latest anouncement) revealed.

We don't know how far we are away from an annoucement but it seems certain to be with in the next 24 to 48 hours. My fingers (like all of us) a crossed for a big recovery. Just to while away these anxious, days, hours, minutes what episodescould we live with out having been found? Now one rule - I want all WHO recovered if possible so this is just a bit of FUN (remember that) to build up to the reality.
The episodes I recall as being dull and boring are:-
The Space Pirates The Smugglers The Savages The Trojans Enemy of the World and Fury from the Deep (Yes! watching it was boring!)
That easily leaves at less than 90 episodes!
Remeber this is for FUN.
24 Hours and counting..............?

Best silent B and W film I've got is the early version of Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World". The animated dinosaurs almost look real. Way back when satellite was half way good and certain channels showed whole, complete series I wrote Sky suggesting that they could fill the twilight hours of the day with an alternative to UK GOLD (as it then was) with a completely B & W channel called UK SILVER. They could fill it with B and W Doctor Who, Steptoe, Likely Lads, Forsyte Saga, etc. I suggested they could make, on the cheap, a programme showing one or 2 episodes from partially lost programmes e.g.Compact, the Newcomers, Dixon, Z Cars, Dr Finlay, etc. with a brief explanation of why the rest were missing or what happened in subsequent episodes. Also included could be classic B and W films. Even if UK SILVER only broadcast for a 2 to 3 hours a night I was sure it would get an audience. My suggestion fell on deaf ears and I suspect the response would be even worse now. We can only dream....

Having watched Dr Who from the very beginning this is almost certainly from Evil of the Daleks. This was repeated in England between Wheel in Space and Dominators but after that..... I have no knowledge of Australia (Broadcasting wise I hasten to add). Of course what you are implying is that if you did see it in Australia in the early eighties then it was still in existence then. You could not have got your "memory" from screen shots as I don't remember them being available to the public then. Curiouser and curiouser....

Terror of the Zygons and the last complete existing story finally makes it to DVD. So what is left that hasn't so far been issued? (no no no - NOT the 90 episodes rumoured to be from from Serra del Fuego I mean in the real world existing) Odd episodes with (hopefully animation e.g.. Moonbase, Underwater Enemy etc.) Children in Need - Dimensions in Time, etc.
We suspect totally animated stories may not happen. But for us completists what else could there be? What about other animations/reconstructions?
I've helped to reconstruct the trailer that preceded "An Unearthly Child" on another thread on this site. What about constructing David Whitaker's re-imagined opening to his novelisation of the Daleks where Ian and Barbara meet the Doctor and Susan in the fog on Barnes Common? Or John and Gillian meeting Dr Who before their adventure with the Kleptons?

Abit of light relief from all the rumour threads. Last night I watched again the British TV Awards as screened on BBC 1 earlier this year with a view to saving to DVD the special programmme Award segment. That of course went to Doctor Who. But as I cued it up and watching the end of the previous award Grahma Norton (hosting) made a quip and then there was a cut to the audience. To my surprise was the profile of Peter Capaldi, complete with goatee beard! This was months ago. Long before the announcement he was to be the 12th Doctor! And then Graham Norton goes into his verbiage for the Special Award and a clips sequence from 50 years of Doctor Who. So....all 12 Doctors together for the very first time! Trivial I know but I just thought the BBC ought to preserve it simply for it's spooky premoniton. Please, if you have it on record watch it to see if I'm right.

I was in a retro vinyl shop in Hereford on Saturday. To my surprise and amusement was a laser disc copy of "The Day of the Daleks". I didn't buy it even though it was only £4.00 as I have no means of playing it. I know the story isn't missing but was there anything unuasual about this release which looks to all intents and purposes like a bog standard 12inch LP? Why didn't this format ever take off?

Richard, I was truly amazed out how quickly and accurately you were able to vusualise my distant memories of the trailer. I expect like me you'd like it to be 100% perfect. As I have posted on this thread my recollections have clarified further... Start on Hartnell's face - eyes, nose forehead. His eyes blink and twinkle - hold for a brief moment. As he speaks pull back on Hartnell to where you have him in the current reconstruction except he is turned at roughly 45 degrees to the camera tosee his right hand side. Just before you go to the opening title sequence he waves his left hand to gesture at the seen behind him . It's as if he's indicating the adventures are through the scrap yard doors. The rest is spot on - even to Ian and Barbara appearing behind Susan. As some one else has pointed out the still shot at the end isn't right - the picture was a different early publicity shor as used in that week's Radio Tomes of Hartnell will his hat on and scarf. I hope that helps. But what you have done so far is amazing. P.s. By the way, my friends and family are always astonished at what I can remember and the details. Proof that it is fairly accurate I still have my notes made at the time of Dr. Who from episode 1. The early versions were merely a few lines to remember what had happened but much laterin the late sixties I wrote down a detailed account of an Unearthly Child - I was not able to really check how accurate I was until the episode was repeated as part of the Five Faces of Doctor Who. And of course later episodes I was able to verify as videos were released. I was 9 at the time - why the hell did I make notes? ? What is it about those early Doctor Who's that leaves such clear memories? Why am I still watching a 50 year old programme??? Why can I now not remember what I did yesterday!!!

Richard, Riachard, Richard........Have you been inside my head? Have you walked through my memories? For thoase of you never to have seen this trailer I can assure you that this re-creation is more than awesome It is totally stunning. Itis very close to what I can see in my memory cells. Something about the opening is not quite right but the rest is superbly accurate. The voice sounds a shade hard and I think Hartnell was turned at a slight angle (his right side was slighty facing the camera?) But hell - I may be wrong. This was 50 years ago but this definitely deserves to Platinum award and should be included on the DVD if not,in the actual programme of Adventures in Time and Space. I take my hat off to you, Sir.

Thank you for the compliment. For re-creating purposes the script quoted here is as close as my memory allows to be accurate. The visuals I think began with Hartnell dressed as the Dr talking directly to camera Close up with slow zoom out to head and shoulders. I don't recall the background but think it was neutral, possibly dark.:-
"My name is William Hartnell and, as Doctor Who, I make my debut on Saturday the 23rd November at 5.15.
The Doctor is an extraordinary old man from another world who owns a time and space machine."
Beinning of opening titles (darkness with vertical beam of light opening out) cut to Head to thigh scene of Susan moving and dancing to radio and dressed as in Unearthly child (Probably a clip from that episode.
voice over - "He and his grand-daughter, Susan (played by Carole Ann Ford) have landed in England and are enjoying their stay, until Susan arouses the curiosity of two of her school-teachers - "
Cut to Ian Chesterton in his Chemistry lab in front of bench with test tubes, flasks etc. It may have been a clip from the first episode where he is takling to Susan about litmus paper etc.
voice over - " (played by William Russell..... "
Cut to Barbara Wright standing to Right of a Blackboard. Again possibly a clip of Barbara from the opening episode.
voice over - "and Jacqueline Hill). "
A close up of Hartnell's eyes slowly zooming out to his face.
"They follow Susan and get inside the Ship and Doctor Who decides to leave Earth,"
Closing segment of opening titles
Voice over - "starting a series of adventures which I know will thrill and excite you every week."
End of opening sequence as the words Doctor Who form.
Over a still of Hartnell as The Doctor announcer says:-
"Doctor Who begins on BBC Television this Saturday at 5.15."
It was all over very quickly nearly 50 years ago. The only bit that looked specially shot were the segments of Hartnell as the Doctor. I don't recall any music or sound affects in the background.
"Meet the KIds" probably doesn't exist as it went out live from a hospital. I think the host for this episode was Rolf Harris and he played virtually the entire Dalak battle for a sick boy. Over the final explosion he said something like " I hope you enjoyed that. I know I did. Anyway, if you went to see some more BBC1 are showing the whole story again in a few weeks time......"
