What a splendid find - and the incidental recordings of Zoo Time, Small Time, The Adventures of the Terrible Ten etc. will surely be of interest, too, to those of a certain age! Am I right in thinking that the Terrible Ten are Australian? If so do they survive in Australia? Mods - please do not delete this thread! This links to the comment made by John Green as regards this series on the 'Kennedy' thread. ""The Terrific Adventures of the Terrible Ten, more commonly known as The Adventures of the Terrible Ten, was an Australian children's TV show that ran from 1959 to 1960. The series was filmed in rural Victoria. Fifty-two 10 minute episodes were created for the original series. The original episodes were re-edited and along with new footage were released in 1962 as The Ten Again. The series was originally screened on GTV-9; however, all repeats were aired by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation."" The series will not be included on lostshows.com, as it is not a British show. On the question of how many shows exist; I do not know, and this is worth further investigation. But, here's one for you:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_w_S8hkuok

Thanks,Ray. I seem to recall hearing that a LOT of Australian TV was wiped? Or was it just pop shows?

I vaguely remember it from the Rediffusion transmissions myself. It was a film series so probably a better chance that it exists.

Hopefully, yep. There seem to be one or two episodes circulating, out of 51x10min.episodes.(Ray's quote gives it as 52). It might help that it was shown in Canada, and, apparently, the U.S.,too.

These shows definitely exist on the ""collectors market"", in addition to 'TT Help The Police'; 'TT Build a Town', 'A Horse Named Joe' 'Trouble at TT Bank' 'TT at Shearing Time' 'The Great Submarine Mystery'.

There are at least another three in a private collection, and at least one has been sold on eBay. I'll need to do more research on this, but I have not got the time right now, sadly. Still, ten minutes work....

'The Terrible Ten' WAS shown in the Southern TV region back in the early sixties - I recall seeing them around the same time as other Aus kids shows such as; 'The Magic Boomerang' - another adventure show re a boomerang which when thrown made time stand still while it was in flight - the original was a good adventure series tho' a later version was pretty naff...!
TTT was about 30 mins long so must have been a re-edit of three 10 minute editions into one half hour show

Yeah I recall Mr. Piper was on Southern TV, it was either Canadian or American
the show featured a rather tubby actor as 'Mr.Piper', dressed in a minstrel piper's outfit with cloak and a hat, who lived in an extraordinary place full of wonderment - he'd produce items like a magic arrow or a viking helmet etc then tell stories that went into mini adventures, normally he was in one or two, another tale he told went on 'down at Animal Farm'....the camera panned down to a sort of large mousehole in the wall and went into a section of filmed adventures featuring real life trained animals - a cat and a couple of dogs were regulars etc...
Mr.Piper told tales of giants, dragons etc, there was a cartoon feature too, the actor sang the theme song
I think Southern TV screened them on Fridays, I think it was still on TV in the early seventies...

I can still remember the Mr Piper song
"Come with me, come and see/All the wonders there will be/In my stories, in my songs/And everywhere where fun belongs/We'll see heroes, giants bold/Visit lands both hot and cold/Magic tricks to shiver your skin/Laughs galore with animals in/A world of fun, Pied Piper's house
Not sure of last line, but that was all from memory, I kid you not.

I found this thread while searching for ' The Terrible Ten'. I was 11 years old when the show was broadcast in the UK and thought it was great at the time. My dad had sent for the details of the assisted passage scheme (ten pound poms) and I was convinced that all Aussie kids rode horses and had walkie-talkies. We never did go after all and I'm sure my life would have been very different if we had.. but not convinced it would have been for the better. Anyway I've been lucky enough to find a few episodes on youtube thanks to the poster 'Professor Poopsnagle' including the very first episode.I saw somewhere someone said there were no girls in the 'Ten'. Not so,in fact it was one of the girls who came up with the name 'Terrible ten' as can be seen in the first episode. So here's the link to the professor's youtube channel.Well worth a like I think - The Terrible Ten - Ten town & The Ten Town fire brigade - YouTube
Enjoy.

Professor Poopsnagle was another Australian kids series which went under various names. I believe a number of episodes have appeared recently on YouTube and elsewhere. Steam Punk fans may have other episodes. The series was aired in the Netherlands and Spain and in the UK (on ITV or maybe Ch 4?). Episodes on YouTube have subtitles.
Just recently H2O was aired in the early hours on the Pop Channel on Freeview. This was a series about local small town girls turning into mermaids when exposed to water. It appears that all episodes exist.
The Hidden Valley was also an Australian kids series of which many episodes exist.
If these shows are not listed in LostShows perhaps someone can compile a list here?
