Thanks for all the info in this thread. I think the live shows of RSG have got to be near the top of most desirable missing episodes in terms of 60s pop tv. Far more interesting to my mind than TOTP. At least a few audio tapes are "around" or in collections but it's a shame so little survives and the chances of any of the surviving material being released looks as likely as a DC5 reissue programme. DC certainly works in mysterious ways. Apologies if this is an oft asked question, but how did the regional transmissions work. As RSG was broadcast on many other ITV regions at different times (and often edited), does this mean there must have been several copies/prints of the show at some point ? Does this give us any hope of further recoveries or is it certain that tapes were wiped, returned or re-used after transmission ?

I transferred some live recordings of such artists as Donovan,The Animals and and The Moody Blues from reel to reel several years ago and the quality of the performance was really good. Btw..the Helen Shapiro (look who it is) has surfaced on you tube, but I don't believe it was officially released so I wonder where that came from?

I know the original repeats were shown in 1985 on Channel 4 on Friday teatime and then repeated around 1991/92 with extra progs..I still have them on vhs but don't have the Helen Shapiro clip.

Some regions screened the show at different times but copies would have been made "down the line" to be played out whenever (if in a totally different slot to London). So more than one copy of the editions must have been made. It was screened by Rediffusion at 6.08 to 7pm (with some areas taking the it) but certain regions took the show from half way through, so would they have cut in at an ad break?

Sorry to be morbid, but I wonder this every time the subject is raised..
what's likely to be the fate of Dave Clarke's RSG holdings after his passing?

The original 1985 repeats were shown between 5-6pm on Friday nights (may/june?). Then they were reshown again between xmas and new year 1992 with several extra shows not aired in 1985 as well as a compilation of clips (1 hour I think - not sure without checking my old vhs tape) from 'Around The Beatles' the Dc5 and Donovan ... and a compilation show of The Rolling Stones and the Otis Redding Special. The Helen Shapiro clip was not shown at all in these repeats. BTW...if you watch the show where The Beatles sing 'Twist and Shout' and you listen (with the volume turned up) between the end and the Dusty Springfield/George Harrison clip, you'll hear the screaming crowd noise fading out and hear Keith Fordyce's voice for a split second.

It's not really worth any speculation - especially on a public forum. It's more than likely RSG - and all of his copyright material - will be part of his company's assets anyway, so it won't be like someone 'ordinary' leaving a collection of personal possessions

Does anyone know why he's so reluctant to do anything with both RSG and the entire DC5 catalogue bar 10 to 20 tracks ? Why did he feel the need to insert DC5 clips from other shows with dubbed on screams of "Dave, Dave" into the repeat showings 20 or 30 years ago ? To be honest it seriously blanks me off that stuff like this is just sitting in a cupboard/tape archive somewhere with no prospect of release or with such a huge licencing fee that it makes release next to impossible. Who benefits from that ?

Maybe it's akin to a billionaire sitting in a secret room at home staring at a very valuable painting on the wall, nothing else in the room, and thinking no one knows I've got this, and no one else is going to get it either (it's mine!)....tee hee

Could be but the value of something like the DC5 back catalogue must be decreasing as interest in the band wanes unlike beatles/stones/kinks/who etc. who are very keen to let us buy multiple remastered versions of the same stuff in a different box. Assuming these things are being stored properly it's got to be costing him money, money which is not working for him so that would seem to go against much of what DC believes in. I suspect that both DC5 and RSG reissues may leave him open to some legal action on several fronts and that could be why they are hidden from view. Anyway, I'm not a fan of the DC5 so i wouldn't compare them to a valuable painting. They may be some kind of art heist though. Some of their stuff is awful as anyone who's bought/downloaded the pirate back catalogue can testify to.

IMHO you're right re the DC5 side of things, but, when you consider the possible money he could make from DVD's etc of RSG's episodes that we might not know about or ones that we do, then surely it would be worthwhile to re-issue them or even consider it?
Or as has been said already maybe it's a minefield regarding copyright and other legal matters?

I was at the Kinks Fan Club last weekend and remembered to ask Ray if he had any old footage. Unfortunately he doesn't have anything that isn't already out there. He did say he would love to see the Pantomime that he and Mick Avory were part of on RSG. He said that was "my favourite". Does that ring any bells with anyone?
