I'm about 118 episodes into re-watching this Network boxed set.Nice scripts, especially in the earlier series. It's a pity that there wasn't a booklet produced to accompany it.Perhaps it might have encourage overseas buyers to purchase the Network set, rather than the inferior-but cheap-U.S. one.I hate to read reviews saying that there's poor sound and image "because film wasn't so well-made in those days".
So.We're getting to those episodes with French opening and closing credits.Perhaps half-a-dozen in total? anyone know the story behind this?

On the UK Network release three episodes feature the French opening and end title sequences and no on-screen titles: "Farewell To Tuck", "The Charm Pedlar", "The Parting Guest". One episode, "The Minstrel", has French opening titles but original English end titles and retains the episode title. "Robin des Bois" was the theme recorded for the French TV market, sung in French, it can be heard on the 3rd series episode "Farewell To Tuck".
On the US Mill Creek, sourced from poor quality American prints though some are from better quality European sources and some episodes feature the "Adventures in Sherwood Forest" opening titles and a few are CBS syndicated prints, these three episodes: "Farewell To Tuck", "The Charm Pedlar", "The Parting Guest" have no on screen titles at all.
Not been able to find why, but they could be Canada French versions not France French.

Thanks for all that,Mark!
On the 'glass 99% full" side,it's wonderful that so much survives, but still a pity, for the sake of completeness, that these a few titles have elements that are AWOL.
Just been watching scenes at a doorway, convinced that it was studio-except that it must have been chilly in there because everyone's breath is frosty! Very pleased that they made the effort to have scenes on location is most if not all episodes-and what a guest-cast! Pat Troughton,Roger Delgado,Wilfrid Brambell,Harry H.Corbett (but not together, more's the pity). One episode was about Jewish refugees fleeing persecution in Europe.the villain wanted to keep the foreigners out,but the Sheriff was initially disgusted with his attitude, until he was persuaded that they'd likely support King Richard.(Several Hollywood black-listers wrote episodes under nomes des plumes. Is that the plural?).

Ah.I was wondering if all the series were sold to the U.S.,and if so,whether the titles might be retrievable there.

Good guess,I think: The end-titles on 'Farewell to Tuck',which are a bit naughty since they only credit the actors playing Robin,Friar Tuck, and the Sheriff, state "Post-Synchronise aux Studio Montrealais".

I'm guessing it'll be a while till they get to series 3?

I would think that it could be one of three reasons. The French titled one were all that was kept. They had better quality due to damage on English titled prints. It was an error and they hey sent the wrong mater to Network.
