Not really a surprise. It has been clearly stated by Steve Roberts that the RT have not seen and are unaware of any of the missing 97 episodes being in existence.

Just saw it and thought it would stop a few conspiracy theorists(good luck with that!)... Tho at least this one is a FACT not a rumour. Some posters seem to treat them as one and the same

Tho at least this one is a FACT not a rumour. Some posters seem to treat them as one and the same I don't think the rumor was ever that the Moonbase DVD would feature recovered episodes, rather that the recoveries will lead to an intentional double-dip (Tenth Planet included) once they are "returned" over the next few years. Considering how thread-bare the current EoTW release turned out to be (it seems pre-planned obsolence is the new way forward) if Moonbase is recovered, we could conceivably see the current supplements (prod subtitles, commentary, ect) left off a second "supplementary" release.

IMHO, this is just the Beeb trying to get their monies-worth. Many people already own the audio CD of the story. Next they'll own this DVD with animated eps. 1 & 3. Finally, they'll purchase the DVD with newly announced recovered episodes 1 & 3. Oh well.....
This is probably one of the reasons why the rumoured horde has yet to be announced. The Beeb are simply trying to extract as much cash from the populace as they possibly can. If you look deeper into the rumour, you'll see talk of "second" and "third" announcements. These include "Marco Polo", "The Massacre", "The Macra Terror", etc. The point is, these are stories for which there are NO ORPHANED EPISODES. Thus, the audio CDs were the only way the Beeb could capitalize on these stories. The next logical step then, is to release the stories on DVD, since fully animated stories would be cost-prohibitive.

Animating the episodes probably cost a lot of money and take alot of time so if they had done the animation before the episodes were recovered (or if they were too damaged ) they would want to release them at some stage and try to get money back before the actual episodes are released

Is there any evidence that any more episodes of Moonbase have actually been recovered ? No there isn't, and if everyone is holding off from buying this release in the hope of a re-release with the missing episodes included, they're likely to be waiting for a while, not to mention lowering the chances of any more animations (poor sales figures, etc).

Recovered episodes or animated episodes,I can't wait for this release!Planet 55 doing the animation is just the cherry on the cake for me,as I loved their work on ROT and TP4.Couple that with commentaries and production notes-if it turns out that there are no 2nd or 3rd wave of recoveries announced, then this will be one of the key archival releases of 2014 and will more than make up for any dissapointments. It's a great archetypal Troughton story!

Personally, I wouldn't mind buying re-releases if (and it is a big IF!) any of the previously animated episodes have been found as I think it would make an interesting companion to the animated episodes. The chance to compare the two versions and to see how the animation correctly, or incorrectly, captured the live action would make for an interesting project.
