BBC Points west have just shown a feature consisting of a compilation of footage of Doctor Who in the west country. It consists of various items recently compiled from their own archive. Amongst the footage there is a fair amount of footage from behind the scenes of the sea devils. The footage appears to be previously unknown about and different to the footage recently shown on BBC South and different to that on the sea devils dvd. The quality is quite grainy but I am sure this is a new find. The edition of Points West with the said footage on it should be uploaded to i-player soon and should be available to view here. available here www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03hvl4k/BBC_Points_West_19_11_2013/

Actually having watched it again, they wrongly refer to the footage as being from the sea devils with katy manning as it is in fact Liz Sladen and it appears to be behind the scenes footage of the planet of the spiders and not sea devils after all. Interesting though and I'm sure the footage wasn't previously known to exist. I wonder how much more of it there is??? www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03hvl4k/BBC_Points_West_19_11_2013/

You are right Nigel it is from Planet of The Spiders, but I'm fairly sure that footage hasn't been shown before (ie featured on a DVD). Thanks for drawing it to everyone's attention.

Interesting though and I'm sure the footage wasn't previously known to exist. The footage actually comes from a 1974 edition of Points West about the location filming of the story. It was previously known about (and was referenced in my book 'Doctor Who On Location' back in 2000), but the original transmission date was unknown and only pinpointed recently, so the footage was only dug out of the Bristol News Library for the first time a few months ago. The entire footage lasts 51 seconds. Goodness only knows why the copy they used on their report looks so appalling though!
