Hi, folks - I need to ask a favour, if I may, please...
Does anyone have the facilities to transfer a few reels of 1/4" audio tape, by any chance..? I have come across a pile of 8mm reels containing footage of members of my wife's family, which I am in the proces of getting transferred, but the box also contained a small number of audio tape reels which may conceivably contain the sound that accompanies the films.
If anyone would be willing to transfer these for me, could I ask you to drop me a PM, please..? Time is quite of the essence, I'm afraid, as I need to edit the filmed footage for a Christmas present to a relative who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and whilst the visuals on their own will be fine, sound to go with it would be the icing on the cake.

Now I have a very old reel-to-reel deck and don't live in the UK, but I was sure there were people closer with the latest (in relative terms) audio reel players. |

Rob - I have an open reel machine - but you'd be better off finding someone a bit closer...

I have just (Friday 29th) brought in two reel-to-reel decks from my garage. They seem to be in perfect condition, and I should have them up and running shortly - if I can find the power cables!
The decks are identical Akai GX-4000D machines, and have two speeds - 3¾ips and 7½ips.
I'm in Cambridgeshire, if that's any help.

Can I just take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has contacted me either in this thread or via PM. These tapes have now been checked and turned out to contain almost unlistenably poor recordings of music recorded off-air, but were unfortunately unrelated to the films they came with. In the event, Joan has deteriorated more rapidly than we were expecting, and she is now so ill that she wouldn't have been in a position to appreciate them if they had contained anything.
Thank you all for your support and kindness. It's much appreciated by all of us at this end.
