Firstly a huge congratulations to all those involved with the recent Dr Who recoveries. Now that their existence has been confirmed and the fact that they have been discovered in Africa acknowledged i wondered if anybody could say whether any other British tv programs have also been recovered at the same time.

Previously All of the Time Meddler and the War Machines and a copy of the Web Planet came from Nigeria in 1984.
I also think an arabic copy of the Aztecs episode 4 was found in Morocco.
(All per WIPED!)
Of course the biggest find that nearly was the fact that Sierra Leone held Galaxy 4, The Massacre, The Myth Makers, The Celestial Toymaker, The Savages & The Smugglers until 1999 when they were destroyed in the civil war. A definite case of IF ONLY......

But what I really meant was, were other British tv programs apart from Doctor Who recovered at the same time as the recent recoveries.

I was wondering the same thing, and in fact whether that was where the "90 episodes" rumour came from - perhaps 11 episodes of Dr Who and 79 episodes of various other programmes?

There were very explicit rumours that a lot more than 9 episodes was recovered long before the rumour became 88 or 90. If only 9 have been found, then I think the 9/90 thing is just a coincidence.

We may be encouraged to buy an issue of a certain organ to find out....
However, I think that anybody who's frequented this board for a while, read various publications, studied various websites, etc, etc would realise that a find of that magnitude, from a single location, was a non starter. Possibly the only conceivable source could be if somebody had half-inched a significant proportion of what came back from down under in 1975.

The rumours were never that they were in a single location. It was that they were multiple finds in 4 different countries. Of which Web/Enemy found in about 2010 was the first ... though that rumour did also include the missing episode of Web and 3 missing episodes of Wheel.

Wonder if there's a Nigerian Arthur Daley with a lockup full of old BBC film cans he can't shift in this 419 scam-driven market?

Yes. 2 episodes of the Sky at Night. Any details? Like, which ones, who's on them or when from? I appreciate the news, but the volume of great info maks it a litle hard for us to keep up. Maybe it's detailed on one of the other channels here? I'll go take a peek...
