Lest I've unwittingly put my foot on an unmarked Kaled minefield of embargoed information, this is the very first I've heard of such a thing. If it's kosher, tell on. What you've heard, from where, and how. Ta!

Bleeding Cool had a rumor back in the summer that there would be a broadcast of the recovered Web of Fear. Obviously that won't probably happen if ep. 3 is still missing. Still, maybe there's an outside chance the Beeb will show The Enemy of the World instead.

But Wrightblan, isn't Brian saying that An Unearthly Child/Tribe Of Gum/Whatever You Call The First One is the story not being repeated?
That's how I read it. And I was surprised by it, because it's the first I've heard of it. I understood the restored edition (presumably off the DVD) was getting a showing.

Perhaps the BBC had lined up a nice surprise for that evening, and had put Logical PADDING into the advanced TV Schedules, like they had done with the New Doctor event earlier this year, and the leaks, changed that plan somewhat. Now the cat is out of the bag as to say they have changed this listing again.
I can imagine what would have happened if they said before the start, this is not the episode listed in some TV listings, but has been replaced with an alternative episode.

I heard somewhere mentioned (can't remember if it was from BC or not) that the broadcast of AUC had been put on hold, supposedly because of some technical issues. Or course, that may have been subterfuge to replace it with EotW. Of course, the Beeb could always end up showing both.

Well, until or unless Brian gives us a little more than what we currently have to go on, I'm not convinced it's been pulled from the schedule. It's not like it's lost, or that it wouldn't be very appropriate. It seems a natural choice over any other, I think. But November is a ways off. What happens, happens. Meanwhile, new Troughton is here now!

I thought there was some kind of legal issue with one of the episodes (presumably the first), but I haven't heard anything on this for a while.

I thought the problem was that the Doctor is seen smoking I thought that. I'd be so embarrassed if that's the reason; one little thing that was acceptable at the time the serial was made, and is easily missed by the simple process of blinking.

It was the Doctor Who news page that reported there was a problem with the Unearthly child repeat. That it was because of smoking was speculation generated on this site.

Just got out of the Nerva Beacon cryo-capsule, appreciating the updates! IF the idea is correct, that a fly in the ointment for TV is the use of tobacco - albeit very briefly indeed - in showing the Doctor's pipe, that's interesting, frustrating and barmy all at once. I'm reminded of Albert Finney in Karaoke lighting up in his hotel, then stubbing it out and pretending to be a Dalek... "Obey the EEC directive! Obey!" What might this mean? A new variant of these most important eps? If so I guess it'd be a last resort after special dispensation on the basis of sanity is refused, but for mine, less ain't more. Ask anyone who saw the original BBC Video of The Five Doctors! Mind you, in that instance, sometimes you can go overboard! What shall we say of the likelihood of a repeat of City Of Death or Resurrection Of The Daleks? Okay, okay, City Of Death! Hell, smoking-ish stuff is all over the shop in the old days. I'm sure there's a list out there. Maybe the hookah in Tom's wooden console room is a double no-no now, too? And how might this affect other things? I see that Jeremy Brett's (One True) Sherlock Holmes is out on Blu-Ray in some regions. Shall TV repeats be now forever denied us? And, lest it ain't plainer than plain, how many of us are using our love for Who as the reason we do/don't smoke?! Man and boy, I've been a fan since I was born back in '73. Never once even thought of taking up the habit, but if I did - sure wouldn't be down to five seconds of Bill Hartnell! Besides - prices of smoking mixture being what I'm lead to believe they are today - how could you live with the prospect of not having the readies for the likes of Enemy and Web!

I thought the problem was that the Doctor is seen smoking If it's on BBC 4, how many young people will be watching? Unless it's a BBC watershed policy - Do they smoke on Eastenders? I know they do on Coronation Street (on ITV).
