I still think this is a cash cow type of thing whats after The Crusade Marco polo ? well if the rumours turn out to be BS,then i would'nt mind a animated marco polo (or any of the missing stories),i've enjoyed watching the animated episodes and i hope there will be a forthcoming crusade release

I still think this is a cash cow type of thing whats after The Crusade Marco polo ? But it's not... It's expensive and is a niche. Doesn't mean it cant be done at a profit, but it's hardly going to earn a lot. I hardly think a 7 episode story will be 'next' if there is a next one.

Only if that proves profitable would they consider the larger investment that the 5+ animated episode stories would pose. IMO.

Yeah 3 to 4 seems unlikely for now. Especially if animating The Crusade isn't a sure thing.

You say that, but don't Who DVD releases often get into the top ten sellers lists? So a story that's never been given a standalone released on DVD or VHS should do well. They may look at how Moonbase and Underwater Menace do first though. Aren't Celestial Toymaker and Galaxy Four the only stories that require three episodes? Would love to see those two done.

Yeah those are the only serials missing three episodes. Though I think if animating three episodes was feasible you could make case for a 3 part release of The Daleks Master Plan.

You say that, but don't Who DVD releases often get into the top ten sellers lists? Don't confuse the TV DVD charts and the film/overall DVD charts. Bit of a difference there... Also you have to think of the longevity of a release. It reaches the TV charts because it is freshly released and all the dedicated Doctor Who fans rush out to get it - it is bound to peak. Beyond this initial period it slows down a heck of a lot and charts do not account for this. That is why.

With any luck if The Moonbase and Underwater Menace sell well, someone with a bit of influence will pitch the Crusade idea. Hopefully sometime in 2015 I can put the DVD in and have that 2 to 3 min. bit where I decide if I like the animation style.

I fully expect to see The Crusades animated but I dont expect it to announced until after the release of The Moonbase and The Underwater Meance. By that time as the range grounds to a hault it will then be comissioned. After that I would hope that the BBC would take a gamble and do The Wheel in Space as it has Cybermen in it followed by The Faceless Ones as a major test to see if it financly viable to animate 4 episodes of a story.
If it is sucessfuly and they determin it is viable to animate 4 episdoes of a lost story it opens up a few more possibilities. Still time will tell. Keep in mind back in September 2006 when The Invasion came out we were told it was to expensive and there would be no more animations. Flash forward 7 years and look how many animations we have now.

Keep in mind back in September 2006 when The Invasion came out we were told it was to expensive and there would be no more animations. Flash forward 7 years and look how many animations we have now. That makes sense, but, as covered in a previous thread I still think that condensing the potential animated sections of Wheel and Faceless to the action pertinent to the story and so allowing them to be treated cost and time wise as a 4 parter would make this more attractive economically, and would also keep the balance between live and animated sections 50/50, (like the Moonbase and UM, Crusade, etc), which may be more attractive to the paying public. It would also get two more of Pat's series on the shelf, which would be no bad thing. Don't get me wrong, personally I would be more happy with 4 animated episodes, but if cost is a limiting factor, i.e. no more than two episodes can be animated per serial and if there are concerns about the public wanting to buy serials with more than 50% animated, then condense away as far as I am concerned to get them released in some way other than as orphan episodes.
