Hi ,i know in the past we have had some excellent research done on this granada tv pop show that ran from april 1974 to august 1975 ,especially the details that were found in the daily newspapers of the time ,but i am still very eager to try and fill in a lot of the gaps on the shows where only a couple of artists ,bands are listed on certain shows ,either listed from tv times or bfi ,the show normally had at least 4 to 5 different guests each week .so any info from newspapers or from people memories would be excellent news .ive seen recentley one of the shows which as become available on the net ,featuring the sweet ,from november 1974 ,as anyone elase been lucky enough to see any of the other complete shows on dvd ,if so any info on what the dance troupe zigzag performed to would be very welcomed ,ive tried before for extra info on here ,of this show ,and people have been very kind in helping out ,so im hoping again that missing episodes comes up trumps ,many thanks for reading this thread.

Does anyone know if the MNE tv listings were always accurate ,if so the very short time in which i researched the online archives a couple of days ago, then some very valuable info on guests were mentioned in their weekly listings of 45 ,guests that are otherwise omitted from other tv listings ,The xmas day special from 1974 ,listed all the guests that are alteady mentined ,but nme also added ,mac and katie kissoon and neil sedaka for that edition ,george mcrare was mentioned for dec 1974 ,The Tymes for nov 74 ,Ken boothe for october 74 ,sparks and osmonds and pilot for jan 75 ,and The stylistics for aug 75 ,making some really big names of the time omitted for listings of this much underated alternative for totp from the mid 70s.It was also mentioned in an article that the show from jan 75 was going to be recorded live from the hardrock discotheque in manchester ,but the only person from this particular week in focus ,from feb 75 who was brave enough to actually sing live was alvin stardust who sang a rock n roll song ,then his new single ,good love can never die and finished off amongst the dry ice with my coo ca choo ,surrounded by screaming teenage girls ,the other artists on that edition decided to use their tracks that had been recorded earlier ,these were ,andy fairweather lowe ,sweet dreams and philip and vanessa.

Hi Gerry- that sounds like a very interesting find- can you tell us what track/s The Sweet are playing and whether it's live/semi-live or miming to a back-track and if it's a back-track whether it sounds like it was re-recorded. I know a couple of "Sweet" people (Kevin Smith/Phil Moss) also look at this board, so any news about a new clip will be met with some interest. Regards.

Hi mike ,the episode of 45 featuring the sweet that i have the sweets performances will be very well known to sweet fans ,the band are singing the sixteens ,lady starlight and another song ,the clips have been on you tube for some years now ,there is also another clip of the sweet singing fox on the run taken from the pop show 45 on you tube ,that performance definitley sounds like its been mimed straight from the record ,where as the sixteens sounds either live or re recorded then mimed ,ive been doing a lot of research on 45 but there is still loads of info on what bands or singers performed each week ,it was usual to have at least four or five artists plus the regular dance troupe zig zag each week ,as far as ive been able to research the sweet performed on the show three times ,november 74 with the 16 ,march 75 with fox on the run and august 75 with action,so as far as the sweets performances go there is only one missing ,which compared with how many performances that are lost on lift off with ayshea is pretty good ,only two performances out of 8 survive.

Cheers Gerry, that's great to know. Shame about Action missing- it's one of their better self-penned singles. The name of the track which was performed live on '45' and segued into 'Lady Starlight' is 'You're Not Wrong For Lovin' Me' which was a group composition and the B-side of their first single on RCA (Funny Funny 1971). Those live performances got an official VHS release in the late 80's as part of a Glam Rock series but the acoustic tracks were truncated by a minute or so. If you have the full versions then that's good news.

Hi mike ,yes it is a shame that the 45 performance of action is missing ,but who knows with any luck some of these lost performances may turn up again one day ,i do think that producer muriel young who was responsible for lift off and 45 etc,had a soft spot for the sweet as they were booked for at least eleven times on her pop shows.

Hi Jerry, Here's the answer I received today from Keith Badman... Yes indeed, I did cover Lift Off and U2 on Get It Together in the past. Lift Off was part of my Transmission: Impossible strand, while Get It Together was done far more recently, during the current Rockin' The Box strand. Happy to help, where I can. I've yet to cover Look Alive or the Paul series. Meantime, I'll have a look and see if I have any back issues of Record Collector in the Garage which I have'nt checked yet that may have these articles Once again thank you Keith! William

Slightly off topic, but the source for the BCR Summer love Sensation appears to be the Nicky Horne video show. How many more lift-off clips were used in this show i wonder? Am i correct in thinking that the BFI/NFA archives hold quite a few of these shows?
LIFT OFF WITH AYSHEA (EPISODE 125) 29th July 1974 Bay City Rollers (Shang A Lang and Summer Love Sensation) / Bilbo Baggins (Saturday Night) / Dave Hunter (Jesamine) / Clip of Cliff Richard (Dancin' Shoes from 'Summer Holiday') Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock'Roll (Promo) / Sweet Dreams (Honey Honey).
