Does anyone know if the special radio serial of Dick Barton made for the the 50th Anniversary of the BBC in 1972 exist, or is it as I fear junked. What is the situation with the original series? Does anything exist?

The 1972 version does exist and is available on CD. Sadly, only some of the BBC's master-recordings are in the original stereo. However, they all exist. I think that three episodes exist in the original stereo and the rest exist in mono. As I say, it's all available to buy on CD (as are a number of other Barton recordings). A 1949 recording of the first serial also survives. It's longer, but doesn't feature any of the original cast. You might want to head over here: www.audiogo.com/uk/browse-categories/crime-thrillers-mystery/tv-and-radio-detectives/dick-bartonLots of preview clips from other Barton serials too.

Must have missed the report in 2011 of the 438 episode find in Australia of remade episodes. Will have to have a listen to some of them.

And don't forget that you can see a live recording of a 1951 Dick Barton for yourself next month. See next thread down.
