Hi jerryg, Thanks for your comments, I'll try and find out more about the show and guests; it seems a very interesting concept to me, current records being performed live, then a discussion live with a panel, if we had enough decent artists/songs today it would be good to see it revived! cheers William

Hi William wasn't 'New Release' the first name of 'Time for Blackburn' ? Hi Peter, I don't know, but maybe one of our forum members does? maybe the fact Tony Blackburn was on the panel would indicate that's a possibility? I'll try and find outcheers William

wasn't 'New Release' the first name of 'Time for Blackburn' ? I think "New Release" was only ever shown in the Southern region and it then changed to "Time for Blackburn" at the end of February 1968 when other regions started taking it, though it was never shown in the Midlands.

On the (slightly) plus side, one 1968 edition of Time For Blackburn is held by Kal from an off-air domestic format transfer. It features The Who and Dave Clark 5 (and very good it is too). This was shown at MBW a few years ago.

'New Release' only ran from 5th January 1968 - 23rd February 1968, while 'Time For Blackburn' took over from 2nd March 1968 to 28 December 1968, and it's fascinating to actually see photos. Thanks! There was also 'As You Like It', another Mike Mansfield show for Southern which ran from 11th March 1967 to 27th June 1967, Mansfield's 'Ladybirds' from 31st December 1964 - 29th July 1965 (the last known showing by Southern), 'Pop The Question' and it's sequel 'Countdown' 15th October 1966 - 23rd December 1966. So Southern had a lovely selection of shows.

The Times (and possibly other newspapers) list "New Release" for 23rd February 1968, but then lists "Time for Blackburn!" for the London region the following day (as does that week's London edition of TV Times).
Edit: And a final programme was scheduled for 4th January 1969.
