You said you were blocked - just a thought, but surely changing or forgetting a password is the quickest way to lock someone out out of an account. In my workplace, if I have a problem, IT can take over my account and they've reset my password in the past. My first thought is damn, I've got to get back to work now, not, have their read my innermost thoughts.
It sounds a shame membership is locked as I wonder what intrigue was afoot there. Were your private conversations plotting a coup?

Were your private conversations plotting a coup? The message was specifically that my password was reset - AND - that my IP was banned. Said moderator was essentially the only one active of the team, he was acting behind the owner's back essentially. The irony was that he was wagging his finger about how people should behave; yet he broke his own rules/failed his own standards. And he was definitely someone who should know better by age and education. I leave out the part where the banning was dubious at best, because that probably doesn't interest anyone. System administrators at work do change windows (system) passwords because it's a good security measure: you can restore that user's account if necessary (if there was a mistake, or some e-mail was still needed). Message boards never work like that. After all, the user could click "Forgot your password?" and get straight back in. Unless you also change the associated e-mail, but that is much more cumbersome than the built-in, one-click forum solutions.

I don't care why you were banned, but it obviously rankles that you were and you do come across as agressive with it. I always approach membership of anything as a privilege and check their rules to see if it sits well with me. Just like here, someone is putting in their time and effort (and sometimes money) to make an environment useful to others - they don't have to, and it is on their terms that I join. What you have said, to me at least, reads of a quick fix ban. Not the most elegant, but working is working If you say the site is nearly dead and there is only one active mod then they may just be ticking over with the running and not be aware of all the ins and out. Moderation is one thing, but the poor sod who is currently trying to keep the site running - unsuccessfully - is honest enough to imply there is a huge learning curve and doing what he can to keep it live. Several others seem very grateful. One other thought, are your posts still on the board? Banning can take many forms. Deleting a user can mess up any coherence to threads - I've seen that on Facebook groups where you wonder who is arguing with who as half the conversation has disappeared It must be more awkward to disable an account whilst keeping it in place. If your posts are there then the account is and can be restored - so it fits better with the system administrator stance and less about reading your messages. You also say acting behind the owners back - have you contacted the owner? Is the owner, presumably Mr Wolf, still active as there isn't much other than from stearn

Rhoobarb has permanently blocked me from even viewing the sitc. Given the number of Likes I got, I figure my posts were often considered useful/witty/Nobelish..I hope I've spelt that last one properly. The pile-on began when I took part in a poll about the EU referendum., and gave the wrong answer. As you suggest, the people who run the sites are free agents, and don't have to allow contrary opinions. I should have jumped ship when the bullying started getting bad.

I'm not bothered enough to go on a hunt for the owner, who may not be keen on extra trouble just for the principle. I've seen the moderators'/admins' side of these boards. They've got ready-made solutions to deal with misbehaving people - they're bound to, right. Let's just say that passwords don't reset themselves.

It looks like it is open again as a board. Not sure if that means open to registration.

Feb.11th: "UNLOCKED
The forums are set to fully functional. Whether this means they will be is anyone's guess, but I have done all I can and now need to see if things fall over and, if so, how."
From previous posts:
"The conclusion is there is corruption within the database and this was likely the root cause of the access issues that were seen late last year."
And: "With the same thinking as the malicious back doors through accounts, I am looking into other openings. Signatures, external links etc., have already been turned off, but there is the potential to include these in private messages. These are private and Admins do not have access to any private messages through the system other than their own and they all appear to be encrypted within the database and cannot be cleared en masse. I shall be trying the restoration process table by table and will exclude private messages if I can identify the table."

Sorry, missed this before. I like the way you quote your experience, state what tools there is, then query your own statement - it doesn't sound like you do have much experience with boards other than posting, but are very keen to make assumptions and accusations. The sure fire way to have something working as you want it is to set it up yourself - have you thought about doing that? You are quite right, passwords don't reset themselves, neither do IP addresses get banned randomly, but both are tools to prevent someone posting. It looks like it is business as usual at The Mausoleum Club. There has been a fair bit of traffic today to catch up on.

I don't know why Dr. Arnold bothered to resurrect it at all! I myself don't need further proof because at it's quite clear to me what happened. But if you are keen to really test everything, may I suggest the following: - Find a message board running more or less on the same programming. - Register. - Annoy people so you get banned. (You could - just a totally and completely random example - keep questioning a fact that someone else is certain of.) - See how the system deals with it. I'm willing to bet that you get all sorts of warnings, blocks, and bans - but you will not normally get any message that your password has been reset. Or if it interests you so much for some reason, then just go there and ask 'stearn'. Who knows, maybe he's ready to apologise. He went behind my back at the time, to read my private conversations, which is a very childish, pointless, unprofessional, and unethical thing to do. I strongly disapprove, because it was so completely unnecessary, but it tied in with things he had said just before (and extra ironic because he was busy at the time claiming the moral highground).

If the board opens registration, I may well ask the question - at the moment I can just look on.
My only interest in this is how adamant you are that your assumptions are right and that you have been victimised. I wonder if that is why you got banned - there is certainly a lot of angst on public show. Take care.

I wonder if that is why you got banned - there is certainly a lot of angst on public show. Take care. Well, I was certainly disappointed in someone who was so keen to play by the rules (or keen to pretend to). Once again, you're the person who keeps seeking explanations, for no particular reason that I can discern. I explain to you how message boards work ( general facts); you don't seem to accept it. So now you're moving on to ad hominem amateur psychology, suggesting that I might have been banned, for insisting that I wrongly got banned?? Was that with, or without time travel? Or maybe it was his evil twin. Perhaps some, any or all of us were on the wrong medication. It's all neither here nor there. You're missing the point. Sometimes people get banned, for the right or the wrong reasons, it happens. That's why I skipped the complaining about that. But hacking into an account to read private conversations is quite a different thing. You do agree, that that's a bridge too far, right? That makes the mausoleum club a board where I don't want to be. If I can do a friendly ad hominem in return: I surmise that you've maybe not been on many message boards. They've been around for some 25 years now, in fact they were there before youtube or faecesbook. And so was I. I've seen a few come and go. Perhaps just for once, you'll take my word for it: They don't always bring out the best in people. (So maybe not all that different from x/twitter, youtube etcetera!) Out of interest, unless I'm mistaken, Greybeard seems a fictional name. Now I'm not a staff member, but why don't we save the moderators some time: the site requests that we use real names.

Robert Clark, nickname Greybeard, as that is the colour it went whilst quite young, hence rcgreybeard. I started on telnet in the early 90s, moved onto message boards as they migrated, then Facebook and others as they came and went. Never run one, don't want the hassle, but obviously know others who do on other boards where there is mutual subject interest and more of a community feel.
Yep, I got the bit that you skipped complaining about getting banned and simply accused someone of hacking. I would agree, if you can positively prove it, it is a bridge too far, but I don't think you have. Simply adding 1 + 1 and getting 3, because it fits your agenda of being a victim, doesn't mean it is actually true. I'm not the only one that seems you have read a lot into a little. You have come across as very angry, especially about a board you seem to care little about, that's the reason it has piqued my interest as there must be more to the story.
I'll leave it there as I've got no intention of annoying you, I just thought you might be interested in just how you are portraying yourself to others. As I say, take care.

I'll leave it there as I've got no intention of annoying you, I just thought you might be interested in just how you are portraying yourself to others. As I say, take care. Let me spell it out for you because maybe that is needed, despite your long experience: As said twice before, you asked for details. You then start to argue about easily refutable details - how message boards work etcetera. So it's easy to inform you that, alas, there wasn't a "perfectly logical explanation". Maybe it was waste of my time, but then, I sometimes think people will actually want answers. If you think that I made up the password reset, then it would be no use to confront me; best strategy in such cases is to ignore. Brings me to the key question: So have you thought this through in terms of what you're trying to achieve? Even though you only just become active here and you're not even registered on the maus club, you don't let that stop you from assigning motivations and agendas (signing "take care"). To be honest I think you should not attempt psychology, because it's by nature very ad hominem and will be seen as insulting; and also, I'm not sure you've got the right end of the stick if you keep searching for the truth behind it all indefinitely. Am I allowed to be genuinely disappointed that Steve A stooped so low? Or must there be a hidden motive behind it? (Consider: If I had a victim agenda, wouldn't there be a cause? In other words, wouldn't that in fact support my story? Anyway, I could have dug up a list of more grievances to try and influence people - that seems to be how it's usually done; I'm really underselling it here.) I am mystified why it even interests you so much that you keep presenting new theories. It's frankly the only reason why I reply - even if perhaps I shouldn't. I know that there is a maxim that says "QUESTION EVERYTHING", but you're not supposed to take it that literally. Or else you might come across as judgemental, overly suspicious and argumentative. Maybe worry about that first.

nickname Greybeard, as that is the colour it went whilst quite young, hence rcgreybeard. Are you certain it was grey? Slight to mild colour blindness is relatively common, especially in males. Couldn't it simply have been white all along? You seem to use it now as a badge of honour. But what is behind that? (Apart from the chin it grew on.) It feels forced, as if you insist that you're okay with it, that you can laugh in the face of ageing and decay. Take care that it doesn't become hollow laughter! Do you see what I mean?
