I recently came across these screen shots from The Massacre - www.seriessub.com/serieszodes-infos-e6128.htmlWhat's interesting is that they don't look like telesnap images, they seem more a case of someone pausing a videotape before taking the photo. Also, in the case of this next image from The Massacre I can see colour in the image, but I thought most telesnaps or screengrabs taken at the time would be on b&w film, not colour? - www.seriessub.com/serieszodes-infos-e6126.htmlThen there are these two images from The Dalek Masterplan ('Volcano')and Mission to the Unknown - www.seriessub.com/serieszodes-infos-e6120.htmlwww.seriessub.com/serieszodes-infos-e6108.htmlI've no idea what the website is that I sourced them from, or why I find Mission to the Unknown listed on the page as "diffusion 01/01/70". Does anyone know the origin of the screenshots and the meaning of the date? Please excuse my ignorance if this has been covered before, I'm new to this forum!

That brings up a question I have regarding Massacre and Mission to the Unknown. I know that there is no available footage in any format, nor are there any telesnaps. But are there any other known imagery of either serial? Backstage photography from an actor? Photograph of the television from a fan? Publicity photos?
Is anything from the Loose Canon recons actual imagery from the show?
Or when they say that there is NOTHING for these two serials, do they literally mean no visuals what-so-ever?

"diffusion" means to spread something out, but intriguingly it also means to mix something into something else. I wonder what has been mixed into what to produce these?

The French bit at the top of the page - "Prenez 2mn pour vous inscrire et profiter de votre liste de séries personnalisée, de la liste des épisodes encore à voir et bien plus !"
means
"Take 2 minutes to register and enjoy your personalized list of series, a list of episodes yet to see and much more!"
a list of episodes yet to see..........hmmmm

I've done both an online search and checked Loose Canons webpage but I can't find anything that links the two. Plus, they look too good to be reconstructions. These are definately taken off the screen, either from live broadcast, or from paused videotape. But from where and when?

'Diffusion' in this context almost certainly refers to a broadcast date, although the given dates are obviously just placeholders (1/1/70 is the start of the UNIX epoch, the point from which dates are calculated, so in this case I would assume that the 'broadcast date' field in their database holds a value of zero). The colour visible in the second image is simply chroma crosstalk; the image has been taken from a PAL or NTSC videotape. Beyond that, they will be screengrabs from a reconstruction; possibly Loose Cannon, possibly someone else's. I'd need to dig out my tapes to verify this, but that'll be where they're from. For example, the 'Mission' image is from www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK6ToNK-LGU and appears at about 6:51 in.

Wow,these shots are REALLY creepy...!They don't look like tele-snaps AT ALL.And it's really wonderful to see such a kinetic shot from Mission to the Unknown. Most moving shots from the tele-snaps are always blurred or difficult to make out.Plus these have that modern look to them,as if the screen grabs were only taken yesterday.Definitely something odd about them. But who knows, they might just be clever composites.

There are a few publicity/production stills for both serials, but as far as I know that's it.

They look very much Loose Cannon reconstruction screen grabs. Very convincing but composites nonetheless.

Having the LC Recons for both Mission and Massacre to hand these are definitely taken from their reconstructions. As both stories have very few actual photos they made a lot of composites for these. There used to be pages on the Loose Cannon website for the making of these two stories but I can't seem them anymore.

These definitely look like screen grabs from the recons. The woman in The Sea Beggar image has the Rani's body (from The Mark of the Rani)... The Mission to the Unknown ones are from recons - Jeremy Young was in an episode of Space 1999, and screen grabs of him from that have been used in the MTTU recon. Publicity photos do exist from both MTTU and The Massacre, and have been used in the recons.

Having seen both recons, I can confirm that's the case - the Rani's outfit being the obvious giveaway! (PS you can notice the definite improvement in LC's work from The Massacre to DMP).
