The Dalek design he produced was an all-time classic,a truly original, atypical monster which scared a generation of children.A very thoughtful, modest man,he will be greatly missed.

A totally successful attempt to break up the human form and get away from the "man in a rubber suit" monster. Many years ago I attended a convention where he was a guest - I think he was a little peeved that Terry Nation got all the glory. However, everybody on this MB knows Ray's place in history

I think it's fantastic and a testament to his work that the Daleks are still the iconic image he created 50 years ago. As long as the Daleks continue to be a pain in the arse for Doctor Who, Ray's vision will live on.

COM MEM OR ATE! RIP Raymond Cusick, thank you for designing the most beautiful and iconic sci-fi baddie of all time. Your contribution to Doctor Who will never be forgotten.

It is such a shame that he never got due recognition for his contribution, without which Dr Who may well have ended in its first year as something of an interesting exercise but quickly forgotten. Peace be upon you Ray - Rest well.

I've enjoyed his contributions to the DVD line, especially his total disdain for "The Keys Of Marinus"

Ray will be sadly missed - it's amazing how so many fans never knew him.

I also loved the way he always name-checked Ridley Scott whenever he talked about those early days, how Ridley as staff designer was un-available at the time and how he had to fill his shoes to create the Daleks.
