I don't think they ever appeared for that song (I don't have the info to hand here but I'm almost certain that was the case). The film promo was probably shown though. I think My Love was the first time they actually appeared in a studio (TOTP), a few months later.

yes i did wonder if the info was right about wings performing at the lift off studios ,the performance is listed as the 19th december 1973 ,along with t rex and freddie garrity for that edition ,so still not sure then if they did appear in person or not.Like you say lawrence wings are not listed as appearing in the totp studios for this song ,i think it was oct nov 1974 ,when they next appeared on totp with juniors farm.

No, My Love was the next time they were actually in the TOTP studio (around April / May 1973 - I can't recall the exact date offhand). The appearance is wiped though. Junior's Farm came after that.

Looking at the Lift Off listing, I am pretty sure that on the 19th December 1973 show, Shakin' Stevens and the Sunsets also appeared. I definitely remember T. Rex doing "Truck On Tyke" on that one (with Miller Anderson on guitar?) as I managed to catch the programme thanks to being at home from college earlier than usual, the last day of the pre-Christmas term and I was rather the worse for wear due to the high intake of alcohol. It was traditional..

23 July 74: "THE GREAT WESTERN MUSICAL THUNDERBOX" ('..with Fred Wedlock, and it must have been a repeat as Adge Cutler was on it, and he was killed in a car crash a few weeks ago; at the end of the show he and the Wurzels performed a rousing version of "Drink Thy Cider"'.) I think I have seen that 'Drink Up Thy Cider' performance re-run on HTV in the 90s (I was working in the region at the time). You mention it was 'rousing' and indeed I remember it being lively and put across with much conviction - better than the version on record.

5 Aug 74: "LIFT OFF" featuring Mud and Firebird (who?!) That would have been Two Wheels by Firebird then : they played it a lot on Radio Luxembourg at the time. I thought it was a good song but no-one ever bought it! www.45cat.com/record/bell1370Recently uploaded to YouTube. Awesome.... in a First Class Beach Baby get your sneakers and drink up your milkshake kind of way... www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1WdAPzRldA
