My diaries are jogging my memory again, hot on the heels of my recent "45" entries. I found the following references to TV music shows, listed here along with my original notes:
6 July 74: "WHAT THE BUTLER SAW": featuring Camel doing "Never Let Go", and Michael Chapman
15 July 74: "LIFT OFF" ('featuring Sweet playing "The Six Teens" and a track from their Sweet FA LP which was bloody good - Andy Scott is a great guitarist; Pilot with "Just A Smile" and Merlin doing "Alright"'.)
23 July 74: "THE GREAT WESTERN MUSICAL THUNDERBOX" ('..with Fred Wedlock, and it must have been a repeat as Adge Cutler was on it, and he was killed in a car crash a few weeks ago; at the end of the show he and the Wurzels performed a rousing version of "Drink Thy Cider"'.)
29 July 74: "LIFT OFF" ('..showed the Stones' "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll" film with them covered in foam, which I'd already seen on OGWT on 9th July'.)
5 Aug 74: "LIFT OFF" featuring Mud and Firebird (who?!)
6 Aug 74: "THE GREAT WESTERN MUSICAL THUNDERBOX" ('..Fred Wedlock singing about a jobsworth, plus Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra, White On Black and Marianne Segal'.)
12 Aug 74: "LIFT OFF" ('..which was really rubbish tonight, with Paper Lace doing "The Black Eyed Boys"'.)
1 Sept 74: "FIVE FACES OF THE GUITAR" ('..on BBC2 with Julian Bream, Paco Pena, Barney Kessell and Jeff Beck. Jeff played two numbers, the second being his arrangement of the Beatles' "She's A Woman"'.)
2 Sept 74 : "LIFT OFF" ('..with New World, The Rats, and Scott Fitzgerald - not a brill programme really.')
10 Sept 74: "LIFT OFF" ('..included Albatross with "Rock 'n' Rollin' Boogie Man", and a great band called Jackal who wore oriental costumes, white face make-up and narrowed mascara'd eyes and played their new single called "Year Of The Tiger"'.)
19 Sept 74: "TWIGS" ('..on BBC2, a musical show starring Twiggy with guests Tim Hardin and Paul Jones'.)
No doubt more to come as I trawl through the yellowing pages! I've noted performances from OGWT but I guess this information is fully documented elsewhere?
