The bbc don't own the Radio Times any more, if I remember right. So it's hard to say that they dropped this story in to wet the appetite. It's Patrick Mulkern waving the WHO flag as the fiftieth rolls ever closer.

I posted the link on my Facebook page yesterday with a short explanation that the last four episodes to return since 1999 all came from collectors who had no idea what they had were missing episodes.
Just like how many episodes may be out there, I have no idea how many of my "friends" will have read the article. However, some will and you just never know who they may know, or who they will talk to.
One person has shared my post and link to her 300 friends.
It may all come to nothing but at least in every little way we can we are raising awareness and who knows, maybe getting closer to the next Francis Watson or Terry Burnett.

I predict that from this campaign, we will find 11 missing episodes, sounds crazy, i know, but it's very likely, it seems.

I meant as it's very likely to find some missing episodes from the campaign, also I decided to put a wanted ad on the Australian website www.gumtree.com.au looking for doctor who 16mm and 35mm film prints. So far, no one has replied to it, but if I do get a reply, i'll be very happy. If you want to look it up yourself, search doctor who 16mm on gumtree. Who knows, maybe I'll find a missing episode. and about the old rumour, I'm really sorry for doing that, and I realised I really shouldn't have done it. Good day.

Obviously I would encourage spreading the word like you have, and the old rumour is not problem either. This is my only issue: I just don't get how people can put a number or odds to future finds - because in reality you just can't.

When you say 11 episodes, are you thinking of any particular country or episodes...?

I commend you for posting advertisements. I hope you get a lead, but I just don't know how it can be very likely that something will be found. What strategy are they using that hasn't already been tried before? Since The Tomb of the Cybermen was found in late 1991, luck really hasn't been on our side. Finding a missing episode is like buying a lottery ticket and winning a grand prize of several million dollars. Four lost episodes found over the last 21 years is disheartening to the point of where some might think there are not many more lost episodes out there.

My personal theory for what it's worth is this regarding remaining lost episodes. I believe from reading other information on this forum and others that the BBCs proof that something was destroyed was that it was signed for, which granted is usually an honest assessment of the situation. I believe also that copies that were signed off as destroyed/wiped have also turned up.
I think that it is reasonable that there are other such cases of 'wiped' copies having gone walkabouts and are still in the hands of ex-employees or friends of people who worked for the BBC.
This is not to say that these people are dishonest, because if they were going to be destroyed, why shouldn't someone else take them and relieve the BBC of the storage problem?

A word of advice though - you will almost certainly get hoaxers contacting you trying to trick you into believing they have some material. My advice is don't come on here and announce that you've been offered any missing material. PM Paul and pass the information on to him. It'll cause a lot less trouble in the long run.

Jack, making predictions like this based only on wild speculation and wishful thinking doesn't achieve anything except winding people up. That is sound advice. With what people have said at conventions concerning recording extras for some missing stories, and the anticipation for DVD releases in 2013, the rumor mill has gone into overdrive.

While many have been optimistic that there are more out there, the reality is no one knows and its more likely they will show up one at a time rather than a massive find. and most likely years apart.

I just checked my ad and it jumped from 16-24 visits! Did anyone here visit my ad? Thanks if you did, and for all the Australians on this forum, if you know someone who might have a film print, please show the ad to them.
