This is going to be fascinating, but it'll be interesting to see what ends up in the finished film. After all, as tapes from the 1966 tour reveal, they were pretty awful live sometimes ... compare the Budokan gigs to Bob Dylan's incredible performances a month earlier. And I'm saying that as a huge, huge Beatles fan.
I wonder if they'll do a TV appearences trawl as well ...

Well shelley we wait and see what surfaces. It is rumoured that yoko has a vast archive so lets hope one day soon that she may have any of the lost totp performances too. Dvs of Shea Stadium and others should be made too.

It would be incredible if they DIDN'T keep copies of things. They were The Beatles, for heaven's sake. Biggest band on the planet ... someone would have asked for copies of stuff they were on, who knows how long it was going to last, they'd want a record of it all.
EMI were instructed to keep tapes rolling when the Beatles were recording and not to get rid of ANYTHING. As their record company, did they get their own copies of TV appearances & stuff??? You'd have thought.
I'm wondering if sometime after the junking of TOTP, Madhouse in Castle Street (Dylan) etc, whether those responsible were called to account for their cultural genocide by management then or later. Any thoughts???

Why are they asking for stuff from October 1963 onwards? There is plenty of live material existing from then on... it's 1962 to Summer 1963 which is the big black hole TV and film footage wise! Of course any finds are always welcome, but it's that earliest era which badly needs gaps filling! All we seem to have up to August 1963 is the Cavern footage and 8mm home movie stuff. No other footage from the time of them promoting their first three singles!

It'll be interesting to see what turns up as a result of this project. I'm intrigued that Apple are involved in such an extensive undertaking as they can't even get a relatively simple thing together such as releasing a DVD set of video greatest hits, culling all the most obvious footage together (that's leaving aside for a moment all the unknown / obscure clips from the four corners of the earth that a major project such as this will need to coordinate!)

I'm wondering, if they knew about and will include the three existing films by the german police (Hamburg and Munich in b&w and in colour, respectively) fom the 1966 tour of Germany?

A number of fans were burned by Apple Corps in the early 90s when the call went out for material for the Anthology. Took the footage... said "that's ours"... and no credit never mind compensation for preserving the materia.
I shouldn't be surprised if many of the hardcore collectors/hoarders have not forgotten this.

I'm suspicious of their motives. Apple have heaps of stuff in their vaults already that they're sitting on, enough for quite a few CD's and DVD's and yet they're not releasing them. If I had a rare Beatles recording I wouldn't give it to them.
In this internet age you'll find that newly discovered Beatles recordings or upgrades of material that was previously available in poorer quality finds itself made available for free on the net. The fans do it for the love of it not for profit, and this must annoy Apple. I suspect it's a scam so they can claim copyright on anything they get sent which then gives them the upper hand when that same material finds its way onto youtube and other sites.

I am a Beatlemaniac for about 38 years now and I wouldn'd give anything to them without any propper advice from good media lawyers. As a true fan, I'm collecting things for the love of it, not for profit. Anyway, during the last 20 years they (Apple & EMI) had never given anything to the fans in the right way, it was always halfbaken and mostly done and born out of the pure problem, that the bootlegers were often better and quicker in respond to the wishes of the fans. Maybe they will release an official and definitive CD/DVD version of the Hollywood Bowl and Shea concerts or the german and japanese tv appearances as a result of this project, but I doubt it.

I've been waiting for those for years too but I won't be holding my breath this time! Apple are a dead loss. Those German police clips must be some of the most well-known but unseen footage of the group existing. I've always wanted to see them. Hasn't one of the clips lost it's sound though? What a shame if so.

I very much doubt that fans will want to hand anything over - especially, as Peter says - the trawl for material for the Anthology was pretty brutal. Nonetheless, there are numerous news archives of TV material - especially in the States - for the 64-6 tours - that have yet to be officially tapped.
Slightly, OT - but a colour film crew WAS at Candlestick Park - and filmed parts of the concert. There are glimpses of this in the film "You Are What You Eat" but they settle mostly on the audience. But I am imagining that no one would have junked the outtakes and remainder footage, would they!?!

To be honest there was no real wow moment, apart the August 1969 footage, in the Anthology when it was released. I remember The Beatles Book talking about the colour version of "All You Need is Love" which was quickly shot down when revealed is was actually colourized.

I know one chap (the 'bin man' as another poster here will know him ;-) ) who has home video VHS quality footage of McCartney he took in the 1980s around MPL & Abbey Road. Hell will freeze over before he shares it. Not because he's afraid of anything or wants money. He just sees it as part of his memory & life experience and really doesn't want to be bothered dealing with Apple Corps or MPL. I fear there are others with even better content who won't part with it. Apple, EMI etc have burned too many bridges.
