Having read the Savile's Travels thread, it reminded me of his "Speakeasy" programmes which often (possibly always?) had a live band playing in between the discussion. Two memorable ones spring to mind - a 1972 (?) broadcast from Hamburg which featured possibly the first appearance of Tangerine Dream on UK radio (unless Peel had played any of their early recordings, that is), and a 1977 show about punk and the public perception and reaction, which included X-Ray Spex's Poly Styrene as a guest. Wonder if these shows still exist?

From the Missing Believe Wiped list of recoveries:
"Elton John: Speakeasy 11-10-69 Two session tracks from Elton John’s appearance on this Radio One show. Broadcast quality recording by a member of the original production staff."
These tracks were scheduled for broadcast a few years ago on a Radio 4 programme about the MBW campaign, but for some reason didn't appear and were also oddly absent from the reissue of Elton's eponymous second album which included a handful of BBC recordings from the same era. I'd love to hear them. Sounds like it is just the music and not the actual programme itself, which in any case would probably be considered taboo because of you-know-who.
