Was Fordyce still hosting RSG by that time? I always believed he was gradually phased out leaving it in the hands of Cathy McGowan though I'd imagine he returned for the final show. Good point Phillip i think he left sometime in 1965 .

Good point Phillip i think he left sometime in 1965 . I thought that Fordyce was phased out in time for when RSG switched to live performances since at that point there was a large backlash against the show for two reasons in particular - 1 - the uneven sound quality of the different live acts (quite a few name acts grumbled about this at the time) and 2 - Cathy McGowan's ineptitude at holding it all together. I remember reading an interview with The Yardbirds from late 1965 where they talked about the RSG problem and Paul Samwell Smith defended Cathy (he was quite friendly with Vicki Wickham I believe at the time) pointing out she had been brought into the show mainly on the grounds of the fashions and that considering, she did an OK job so it was unfair to lump all the blame on her. (That interview is featured in the booklet of the old Charly vinyl boxset "Shapes Of Things") Wasn't Patrick Kerr also co-hosting with Cathy? Dave Davies talked about him being a major part of RSG in 1965. It doesn't help that around 85% of what exists of RSG is from before 1965 hence very little existing evidence to go from.

I did wonder about that myself. But as it does sound like Fordyce, I can't imagine what else it could be at that time. Maybe he did return to the show? It's at times like this that you realise how hard it is to find solid facts on Rediffusion productions.

That's what I thought - hence my previous comment, 'if it IS RSG'. I'll do some research. I know by the time of the Otis Redding Special in 1966, Fordyce was nowhere to be seen with McGowan hosting alone.

Although that was a special and not necessarily representative of the regular format. As so little RSG survives from 1966, it's hard to say for certain if Fordyce was appearing much by then.
