Hi,
I followed this message board now for a while and enjoyed reading the threads about finding missing episodes and I wanted to share an idea with you guys: Some will remember that there was the possibility that the 4-Part Story The Ice Warriors could be in the german ZDF Archives but it turned out that the ZDF didn't have them anymore. Back in the 60s to 80s the ZDF would often send Shows they pick up to air or don't pick up to the Austrian television ORF. They often would cooperate in produce german dubs for several TV Shows etc. For example: Back when the ZDF was airing the original Star Trek Show they skipped several episodes because they were to violent or didn't look that good. One of those episodes were Patterns of Force. However the ORF on the other hand showed the episode with german subtitles as part of a special program.
Some might say that the ORF went to the original licenseholder in america and secured the rights to the episodes but the thing is that the ORF has never done that (not even today). So they got this skipped episode from the ZDF in the 70s who on the other side never intended to air it.
So maybe the ORF also received those 4 Doctor Who episodes in the late 60s from the ZDF?
I tried to contact the ORF Archive a month or so ago but didn't get a respond so far...
The Adress is: Österreichischer Rundfunk Fernseharchiv 1136 Wien, Würzburggasse 30 archiv@orf.at
Maybe someone else got better luck than I do?
And as a Note: sorry for my bad english - I'm better in talking english than writting it ^^

It's a nice thought. I'm sure Paul Vanezis or one of the other episode hunters will have explored that avenue, as they constantly followed the chain in Africa. Austria from Germany would be a similar bicycling of episodes I feel. Feel free to disagree with me here guys.

Ice Warriors is 6 episodes, not 4.
The ZDF lead was followed through, but I do not know if they had gotten information about where the episodes could've been sent. It would be interesting to hear from Paul V. more about this.

Ice Warriors is 6 episodes, not 4. Given the respectful nature of the OP, perhaps nit-picking his facts isn't entirely appropriate. Seems to want to help, which is genuinely refreshing.

Ice Warriors is 6 episodes, not 4. Yeah sry ^^ I'm not as much into the classic Series but I try to catch up slowly To come back to my Star Trek excample: The thing is that the ZDF didn't even license the Patterns of Force episode. They got it from america, watched it and then decided if it was worth licensing/airing or not (same thing with Doctor Who). So I think it is possible that they might have sent the Ice Warriors to Austria and told them if they're not interested to destroy the episodes, but as far as I know: Everything the ORF receives goes right into they archive...

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean. I was just pointing it out.
The idea of them being sent to Austria is an interesting one, and the poster does put together a good argument. I'm interested to hear what Episode Hunters think.

This looks like someone genuinely trying to help. Perhaps unlike the chap this morning. Although to his credit, I believe Paul V got a PM. If he was lying through his teeth you would expect he would disappear.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean. I was just pointing it out. No Problem - Better being corrected than spreading wrong facts as my father always says

I'm interested to hear what Episode Hunters think. Would be ironic if Austria turned out to be a source of episodes, given the extensive hunt. Though I'm sure Paul or another member of RT will confirm that it's already been checked.

The profile the chap from this morning says he's 13 years old. I remember being an idiot at 13 years old. I use to believe anything my friend told me, and ended up trying to convince my science teacher that a second moon had been found. Cause my best friend told me so. This post though sounds very intriguing, and certainly something worth just checking into.

Eh. It's a moot point. That thread is locked. On to this one. So! Austria. What else do we know about Doctor Who and Austria?

I must admit I do like this idea. BroaDWcast doesn't have a page for Austria, so it's possible nobody has thought to try this before. And even if ZDF never screened it there's still a chance audition prints ended up there. Good thinking there, austriandwfan!
