Simply prepare a flyer saying that a collector will pay good money for any old films, give contact details and then post through the letterboxes in your area.Or get a distribution company to do it for you thus covering a larger area (how much would a national distribution cost?) .Probably has a better chance of success than spending money putting an advert in a S.Leone newspaper.

It's worth a try... Probably get nothing of note, but you never know. There's a slim chance, but given the choice between slim and none I'd take slim any day of the week. The cost of national distribution would be prohibitive, though; remember there are circa 20 million households in the country...

You'd get a lot of people offering stuff you don't want and if it's not phrased well they'd expect you to buy it.

(how much would a national distribution cost?) To reach all the occupied households in the UK, you'd be looking at around £865,000 plus the cost of producing 21.5 million leaflets in the first place...

The idea of offering money for eps was discussed on a previous thread about a week ago, and the consensus was that it was not a good one. Its sole advantage it that it gets more people looking.
Wouldn't it be simpler (if equally time-consuming) to compile a list - region by region - of every antique, house clearance and s/h shop, and systematically go through it every 2-3 months, phoning up each and asking if any film has come in?

If anyone has the time, inclination and money for the 'phone bill to do this, it's a good idea - but what happens when they say "yes, we have 50 cans of film from a house clearance, unlabelled, no way of viewing them" - who's going to volunteer to check out every find ? I suppose anything could turn up - not just DW and other TV, but missing feature films, shorts, educationals, home movies of historic occasions...

I often thought it would be a good idea for some one to start a society with a mission to buy up all home-recorded film they can get their hands on from the 30s/40s/50s/60s, digitise it, and make it available to social historians etc. There must be thousands of hours of film which will go to ruin because no-one can view it and thinks it's worthless. Perhaps such a society could also have a remit to look for lost episodes. But then, we've gone down that road very recently on another thread...

That's a great idea. Only question is who is going to pay for it? Good luck getting central government funding these days... Perhaps such a society could also have a remit to look for lost episodes. But then, we've gone down that road very recently on another thread... I'm sure if such a society existed, they'd pretty quickly be contacted by the relevant interested parties and would be amenable to turning over any material found.

i'm gonna see if i can get my parents to find me a doctor who film print, per se: the time meddler ep. 4(unedited), and maybe even missing episodes, like: the crusade ep.4, the highlander, any eps, so, we'll see happens in a week, or in christmas.

I think there is a misconception on just how much film is out there vs how many dr who prints were made. I buy up large collections all the time and currently have over 10,000 reels of film. And I suspect I've had 10 times that much go through my hands over the past few decades. The idea that you could buy up random collections and find anything missing is very unlikely.
In terms of who prints, from the research Jon Preddle has done I don't think that More than a half dozen copies (if that) were printed for any given episode. And most of those are known to have been destroyed.
It's not impossible to find something, but you would have to be prepared to spend a lot of money and go through a lot of film.

Pack it in. Rob, if he's actually 13, he's just genuinely deluded and like most 13 year olds who think they can do anything because us old folk are too slow these days!
