Oh! I thought it was something to do with el Nino...
These are tapes from 1960 of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. Nice going,Rob.

Wonder what Ringo rarity is going to show up next? The promo film for Photograph? How about the alternate takes from "The Magic Christian" ? According to Graham Chapman's (maybe unreliable) autobiography, after watching the rushes, Peter Sellers insisted on re-shooting the scenes where he thought Ringo was getting more laughs than him

I read an in-depth comparison of the drumming styles of Ringo and Pete Best somewhere. Was there a whole book on the subject? The author seemed keenest on recordings of the same numbers, for direct comparison. This might give him material for another chapter!

I think the general consensus is that Ringo is not the drummer on this tape. Still, great to have it in the public domain and i hope General Consensus (whoever he is) is wrong. If only some killer Big Three tapes would surface (if they even exist) or for that matter some more Beatles cavern tapes. As if apple would release anything as interesting as that.

I find it difficult to believe that's actually Ringo drumming on the tape. Whoever is playing can't keep time. Just compare it to the live performance of 'Help' on Ed Sullivan. Really crisp drumming, bang in time. Apparently Rory's sister confirms that it is Ringo... perhaps that was the song Ringo played on guitar ?

Browsing a couple of Beatles forums, the consensus seems to be that it isn't Ringo drumming at this point. Almost too good to be true, I suppose, but whether he's present or not, it's still a very valuable record of what the band sounded like. Good recording quality too!

Aye... not bad recording quality for that time and more chances to hear Rory Storm is welcome. As for the drumming, judging from that example, utterly abysmal. I believe Ringo was renowned locally even then as being a cut above most, but here he's either drunk, or it's somebody else on the drums. That bears none of Ringo's techniques nor flair or style. Just a lumpen mess.

Ah ha! Given he doesn't record when Ringo returned, I think it's safe to assume he may well had had a few days off. Sods law then this tape turns up of one of the nights he probably was absent!

Unless it was Don that made the tape in the first place!
