I remember reading about many scenes filmed for CARRY ON's featuring cameos by the likes of Terry Scott or whoever which ultimately ended up on the cutting room floor. Does any of the cut material still exist or was it systematically destroyed?

It was all junked as they went along, either immediately after the final edit was done or up top ten years afterwards that Gerald Thomas kept stuff. They didn't see the current commercial aspect of such material back then.
There is a surviving out-take from Up the Jungle featuring Frankie Howerd and Joan Sims (been years since I saw it but I'm sure it's from the scene where Joan is describing the motion of a snake which Howerd says is the 'Vindscreen Viper'. I seem to recall Howerd fluffed his lines and they cut? I'm sure this survived because it was used in some contemporary documentary at the time.
I think there was also one other clip that survived (which I haven't seen) but can't remember which film, possibly Loving or Matron? Other than that all gone unfortunately!

According to on of the guide books Felicity Kendal was cast in a small part in Carry On Matron, but none of here scenes made it to the final cut.
Slightly OT: It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World had lots of cameos by American comedians, often as short notice as the director tried to get a few veteran performers out of retirement to do just a scene or 2. As this film has been chopped down a few times (& some of the film gone AWOL) some walk-ons have been lost.

Any idea which cameos were lost from It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World? And Steven I hoped by "Wee scene" you don't mean one involving urine samples...

I think the Terry Scott cameo that you're referring to is one where he played a union official in At Your Convenience. There are some pictures of the relevant scene in one of Robert Ross' books but the footage as Dean says is sadly long gone.

A memory has also popped into my head that some Carry On out-takes and un-used scenes were dumped as late as the early 90s when a load of stuff was cleared out of Pinewood but my brain is on a go-slow today so I can't quite recall the details, or whether I just dreamed it! An early night for me I think!

Terry Scott played the union general secretary, Mr. Allcock. When he apologised for arriving late due to a stoppage, Kenneth Williams said he should try Epsom Salts.... They should have kept the footage....

I've heard the story about stuff being junked at Pinewood in the 1990's too.
