I would like to once again thank Paul and Phil for what they have been doing for so many months to dig up clues that might lead them to lost material. I'm sure that many fans didn't know the task would be under such trying circumstances. I would have pulled out all my hair if I had to turn several countries in Africa upside down and found no episodes. That's assuming you had hair to begin with..!

As the old saying goes.. we grow too soon old.. too late smart. I would really be happy if some archecological work was possible in sierra leone. but i dont have the data to know if thats possible. No point digging anything up, the archive was burnt to the ground.

When Levine phoned 'Iran' and got the infamous "What in the name of Allah are you talking about?" response, there were three TV stations that he could have phoned. But which one did he ring? From the response he got, it sounds like he phoned the wrong one! Wasn't it Roger Brunskill of BBC Enterprises who sent a letter/fax or something to Iran? Then again I think that Ian was involved in getting these sent out, but also I thought that the reply came in the form of a letter/etc rather than a phone call... LOL sorry to get picky, your point still stands; maybe they just wrote to the wrong station. Sierra Leone could have had nearly every missing episode but was unfortunately burnt to the ground in 1999, during the country's civil war. Um, again I'm being picky... but I'm pretty sure that it was just their film archive that burnt to the ground and not the country itself Though it is possible for war to do that... and that's not something for me to joke about, sorry. But, yeah - if the films were incinerated in the flames then I don't think that there's much point in digging - all you'll find is their ashes. Then again, maybe even every hopeless cause if worth a try and then, maybe one day...

Levine and Brunskill sent the telexes together, using Levine's copy of The Making of, plus a list of countries taken from some index cards at Enterprises as a guide to whom to contact. (It's a great pity these cards don't exist any more, as a proper full analysis of them now might reveal far more than was extracted from them then...) Ah, yes, it may well have been a letter not a phone call to Iran. But as you say, the point still stands.

Sanctioned by the BBC, no doubt...
