We all need to keep the faith ~ some new finds will show up. We just need to give it time. ;D

This is true... but we all know this. Don't understand the point of this thread.

We all need to keep the faith ~ some new finds will show up. We just need to give it time. ;D Utter twaddle! 'Keeping the faith', as you suggest, won't change a thing. In fact, I'm not sure I even understand what you mean - 'give time'... what, instead of 'take time'? I'll swap you 7am Tuesday for an extra hour down the pub on Friday if that helps.

To be serious there is a lot of voluntary time and effort put into looking for missing episodes - not just DW. Those involved must believe that they're doing something worthwhile.

Over the last couple of weeks I've seen a few people casually say that they believe no more episodes will be found-this four weeks after the latest batch (let's call two a batch) were officially announced. We've just had the shortest time-about four weeks-between episode discoveries for years, the first Troughton episode found in twenty years (which happens to be the earliest PT in soon-to-be circulation, with Jamie in a kilt). The first complete episode of Galaxy Four found.(for which there weren't even telesnaps)... There are a few more reasons to be cheerful than there were a couple of months ago. Of course a pessimist might say "They were hard enough to find when we were looking for 108,with two more found,we've got that much less chance of finding any."

Ok, I'm going into algebra mode, so please excuse me.
We don't know how many episodes are out there waiting to be found - it may be none, it may be all of them. Hopefully it's somewhere in between. But there is a finite number of episodes in existence, which we will call X.
Each time we find an episode, X reduces by one. Eventually, X will become zero. Whenever we find an episode, we have no idea whether that takes X to zero or not. Finding an episode certainly doesn't make it any more likely that X is more than zero.
Wishing and hoping that X is more than zero has no effect on the value of X. If X is already zero (which it may be), then it will always be zero, but we don't know if it is there yet.
In short, it is ludicrous to say "well, two more just up, there must be more out there", but that simply isn't true. There may be, there may not be, but finding one print doesn't make it any more likely.

Rob, Good point. One can no more say "You've reached the age of x,which proves you'll reach x+1".I think the only time that sort of applies is when someone gets through infancy (a dangerous period) and one's a centenarian, when life expectancy's quite good for a year or two. No.The most you can say-and it's not so little-was that the dismal jimmies of 2011 were proved wrong. It's not impossible to prove a negative. With enough resources and time it's theoretically possible to search the entire earth and not find Whos,if there aren't any. We've got the much easier task (ha!) of proving that there are episodes out there.Potentially, there's 106 ways of proving that. Two fewer than before (boo) because two are now rediscovered (Hurrah!).

We all need to keep the faith ~ some new finds will show up. We just need to give it time. ;D We need a little more than that. We could use some good luck where we find more material, and not the kind of luck that we had in Sierra Leone where 117 episodes were roasted in the late 90s.

I've seen people talking about Sierra Leone on here, but not paid it any attention. What happened now? And how much is fact?
