Alan, while we're waiting for an expert answer,I wonder if you saw the Val Doonican tribute on BBC 4 a few years ago, during a season on Easy Listening,I believe? There were clips from the VD show on there. I remember when Val tried some Gilbert and Sullivan one week-'I am the very Model of a Modern Major General' and fluffed the lines. The next week,he tried again, and succeeded.Surely it wasn't all live? (Not that 'live' necessarily means it wasn't recorded,as is pointed out elsewhere).

Unfortunately i missed the tribute show i wish i had watched it,one of the reasons why im mad on the 1960s music is that there was such a good cross section of popular artists not only the Beatles , Stones ,etc but middle of the road artists like Val Doonican , Ken Dodd and many others who had hits at the time , but up to now i've seen very little footage of Val and others performing their hits , which he did on his show , so i'm hoping this show exists in full.

I've been looking at some of the clips on Youtube.People seem keenest when Val's with Cliff Richard,Rosemary Clooney, etc. One of the uploaders says he offered his cilps/shows or whatever to ITV but was told "no thanks".

BBC4 have been airing a few music performances from later editions of the Val Doonican Show recently. On 'Country At The BBC' they showed these... Chet Atkins - Cascade - Val Doonican Show - 1977 Crystal Gayle - Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue - Val Doonican Show - 1979 Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy - Val Doonican Show - 1981 Billie Jo Spears - Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad - Val Doonican Show - 1981 Obviously a lot later than 1967 but nice to see some unusual clips aired.

Heh.I couldn't help but notice that they don't seem to have aired any duets by these artistes with Val.I suspect most of them had/have more respect for him as a performer than do the current BBC staff.

The show in the youtube clips exists in the BBC archive, from my research.

I believe this may be from 'The Val Doonican Show', broadcast 5th June 1965, can anyone confirm this?
